¹² If he does not relent,^(A)
    he^[a] will sharpen his sword;^(B)
    he will bend and string his bow.^(C)
13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
    he makes ready his flaming arrows.^(D)

¹⁴ Whoever is pregnant with evil
    conceives trouble and gives birth^(E) to disillusionment.
¹⁵ Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
    falls into the pit^(F) they have made.^(G)
16 The trouble they cause recoils on them;
    their violence comes down on their own heads.

⁸ He lies in wait^(A) near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.^(B)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
⁹     like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;^(C)
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.^(D)
10 His victims are crushed,^(E) they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
¹¹ He says to himself, “God will never notice;^(F)
    he covers his face and never sees.”^(G)
