    if there is ^(G)wrong in my hands,

    or ^(I)plundered my enemy without cause,
⁵ let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,
    and let him ^(J)trample my life to the ground

^6 (K)Arise, O Lord, in your anger;
    ^(L)lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;
    ^(M)awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.
⁷ Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you;
    over it return on high.

⁸ The Lord ^(N)judges the peoples;
    ^(O)judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
    and according to the integrity that is in me.
⁹ Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
    and may you establish the righteous—
you who ^(P)test ^(Q)the minds and hearts,^[c]
    O righteous God!
¹⁰ My shield is ^(R)with God,
    who saves ^(S)the upright in heart.
¹¹ God is ^(T)a righteous judge,
    and a God who feels ^(U)indignation every day.

¹² If a man^[d] does not repent, God^[e] will ^(V)whet his sword;
    he has ^(W)bent and ^(X)readied his bow;
¹³ he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,
    making his ^(Y)arrows ^(Z)fiery shafts.
¹⁴ Behold, the wicked man ^(AA)conceives evil
    and is ^(AB)pregnant with mischief
    and gives birth to lies.
¹⁵ He makes ^(AC)a pit, digging it out,
    and falls into the hole that he has made.
¹⁶ His ^(AD)mischief returns upon his own head,
    and on his own skull his violence descends.

¹⁷ I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,
    and I will ^(AE)sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

“I am young in years,
    and you are ^(E)aged;
therefore I was timid and afraid
    to declare my opinion to you.
⁷ I said, ‘Let days speak,
    and many years teach wisdom.’
⁸ But it is ^(F)the spirit in man,
    ^(G)the breath of the Almighty, that makes him ^(H)understand.
^9 (I)It is not the old^[a] who are wise,
    nor the aged who understand what is right.
¹⁰ Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me;
    let me also declare my opinion.’

¹¹ “Behold, I waited for your words,
    I listened for your wise sayings,
    while you searched out what to say.
¹² I gave you my attention,
    and, behold, there was none among you who refuted Job
    or who answered his words.
¹³ Beware ^(J)lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom;
    God may vanquish him, not a man.’
¹⁴ He has not directed his words against me,
    and I will not answer him with your speeches.

¹⁵ “They are dismayed; they answer no more;
    they have not a word to say.
¹⁶ And shall I wait, because they do not speak,
    because they stand there, and answer no more?
¹⁷ I also will answer with my share;
    I also will declare my opinion.
¹⁸ For I am full of words;
    the spirit within me constrains me.
¹⁹ Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent;
    like new ^(K)wineskins ready to burst.
^20 (L)I must speak, that I may find ^(M)relief;
    I must open my lips and answer.
²¹ I will not ^(N)show partiality to any man
    or use flattery toward any person.
²² For I do not know how to flatter,
    else my Maker would soon take me away.

^(F)“All flesh is like grass
    and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
    and the flower falls,
^25 (G)but the word of the Lord remains forever.”

^(S)“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
    a cornerstone chosen and precious,
^(T)and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

^(W)“The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone,”^[a]

^(X)“A stone of stumbling,
    and a rock of offense.”
