To the chief Musician. Of David. A Psalm: a Song.
68 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered, and let them that hate him flee before him.
2 As smoke is driven, thou wilt drive them away; as wax melteth before the fire, the wicked shall perish at the presence of God.
3 But the righteous shall rejoice: they shall exult before God and be glad with joy.
4 Sing unto God, sing forth his name; cast up a way for him that rideth in the deserts: his name is Jah; and rejoice before him.
5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
6 God maketh the solitary into families; those that were bound he bringeth out into prosperity: but the rebellious dwell in a parched [land].
7 O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness—(Selah)—
8 The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God, yon Sinai, at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 Thou, O God, didst pour a plentiful rain upon thine inheritance, and when it was weary thou strengthenedst it.
10 Thy flock hath dwelt therein: thou hast prepared in thy goodness, for the afflicted, O God!
11 The Lord gives the word: great the host of the publishers.
12 Kings of armies flee; they flee, and she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil.
13 Though ye have lain among the sheepfolds, [ye shall be as] wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with green gold.
14 When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it became snow-white as Zalmon.
15 [As] mount Bashan is the mount of God, a many-peaked mountain, [as] mount Bashan.
16 Why do ye look with envy, ye many-peaked mountains, upon the mount that God hath desired for his abode? yea, Jehovah will dwell [there] for ever.
17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them: it is a Sinai in holiness.
18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts in Man, and even [for] the rebellious, for the dwelling [there] of Jah Elohim.
19 Blessed be the Lord: day by day doth he load us [with good], the God who is our salvation. Selah.
20 Our God is the God of salvation; and with Jehovah, the Lord, are the goings forth [even] from death.
21 Verily God will smite the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of him that goeth on still in his trespasses.
22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring [them] again from the depth of the sea;
23 That thou mayest dip thy foot in blood: the tongue of thy dogs has its portion from enemies.
24 They have seen thy goings, O God, the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary.
25 The singers went before, the players on stringed instruments after, in the midst of maidens playing on tabrets.
26 In the congregations bless ye God, the Lord,—[ye] from the fountain of Israel.
27 There is little Benjamin, their ruler; the princes of Judah, their company; the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
28 Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us.
29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee.
30 Rebuke the beast of the reeds, the assembly of the strong, with the calves of the peoples: [every one] submitteth himself with pieces of silver. Scatter the peoples that delight in war.
31 Great ones shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall quickly stretch out her hands unto God.
32 Ye kingdoms of the earth, sing unto God; sing psalms of the Lord, (Selah,)
33 Of him that rideth upon the heavens, the heavens which are of old: lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds.
35 Terrible art thou, O God, out of thy sanctuaries,—the God of Israel! He it is that giveth strength and might unto the people. Blessed be God!

2 Que Dieu se lève ! ╵Et voici : ses adversaires ╵sont dispersés !
Ses ennemis ╵fuient devant lui[a].
3 Tu les dissipes[b] ╵comme une fumée se dissipe,
comme la cire ╵qui fond au feu !
Ainsi périssent devant Dieu ╵tous les méchants.
4 Alors les justes ╵se réjouiront,
et ils seront ╵dans l’allégresse devant Dieu.
Oui, ils seront remplis de joie.
5 Chantez à Dieu ! ╵Louez-le par vos chants !
Frayez la voie ╵de celui qui chevauche les nuées[c] !
Son nom est « l’Eternel ».
Exultez de joie devant lui !
6 Il est le père ╵des orphelins, ╵le défenseur des veuves.
Oui, tel est Dieu ╵dans sa sainte demeure.
7 Dieu accorde aux gens seuls ╵une famille.
Il donne aux prisonniers ╵de sortir libres, dans la joie.
Seuls les rebelles ╵sont confinés ╵dans un désert aride.
8 O notre Dieu, ╵quand tu sortis ╵en tête de ton peuple[d],
quand tu marchas ╵dans le désert,

9 la terre alors trembla[e], ╵le ciel fondit en eau, ╵devant Dieu, le Dieu du mont Sinaï,
devant Dieu, le Dieu d’Israël.
10 Tu répandis, ô Dieu, ╵une pluie bienfaisante
pour affermir le peuple[f] ╵qui t’appartient ╵alors qu’il était épuisé.
11 Ton peuple habite dans le lieu
que tu as préparé, ╵ô Dieu, dans ta bonté,
pour que les pauvres s’y installent.
12 Le Seigneur dit un mot,
et aussitôt les messagères ╵d’une bonne nouvelle ╵font une armée nombreuse[g].
13 Les rois des armées ennemies
s’enfuient et c’est la débandade.
Celles qui sont restées ╵à la maison
partagent le butin.
14 Allez-vous rester au repos ╵auprès des bergeries[h] ?
Les ailes de la colombe sont argentées
et son plumage est jaune d’or[i].
15 Lorsque le Tout-Puissant ╵y dispersa les rois,
il neigeait sur le mont Tsalmôn[j].
16 Vous, montagnes sublimes, ╵monts du Basan[k],
monts aux cimes nombreuses, ╵monts du Basan,
17 pourquoi jalousez-vous, ╵monts aux cimes nombreuses,
le mont choisi par Dieu ╵pour résidence[l] ?
Néanmoins l’Eternel ╵y habitera pour toujours.
18 Les chars de Dieu ╵sont innombrables,
il y en a des milliers ╵et des milliers[m],
et l’Eternel ╵est parmi eux.
Il est venu ╵du Sinaï ╵jusqu’à son sanctuaire[n].
19 Tu es monté sur la hauteur, ╵tu as emmené des captifs.
Et tu as prélevé des dons[o] ╵parmi les hommes,
et même parmi les rebelles, ╵pour ta demeure, ╵Eternel Dieu.
20 Béni soit le Seigneur ╵jour après jour,
car il nous prend en charge, ╵ce Dieu qui est notre sauveur.

21 Dieu est pour nous ╵un Dieu qui sauve !
L’Eternel, le Seigneur, ╵peut nous délivrer de la mort.
22 Mais Dieu fracassera ╵le crâne de ses ennemis,
la tête chevelue ╵des hommes dont la conduite est coupable.
23 Le Seigneur a déclaré : des monts du Basan, ╵je les ramènerai,
je les ramènerai ╵des profondeurs marines,
24 afin que tu baignes tes pieds ╵dans le sang de ses ennemis,
et que tes chiens ╵prennent leur part à la curée.
25 On voit arriver ton cortège, ô Dieu,
oui, le cortège ╵de mon Dieu, mon Roi, ╵dans le lieu saint[p].
26 Les chanteurs sont en tête, ╵les musiciens en queue,
ils viennent au milieu ╵de jeunes filles, ╵battant du tambourin.
27 Bénissez Dieu ╵dans vos rassemblements,
bénissez le Seigneur, ╵vous, issus d’Israël[q] !
28 En tête marche Benjamin, ╵le plus petit,
puis les chefs de Juda, ╵avec leurs grandes troupes,
les chefs de Zabulon ╵et ceux de Nephtali[r].
29 Ton Dieu a décidé ╵de te prodiguer de la force[s].
Veuille accomplir avec puissance, ╵ô Dieu, ╵tes œuvres envers nous,
30 depuis ton sanctuaire ╵qui domine Jérusalem !
Des rois t’y apporteront leurs présents.
31 Menace-le, ╵le crocodile ╵qui se tapit parmi les joncs,
de même que le troupeau des taureaux, ╵avec les veaux des peuples,
et qu’ils viennent se prosterner ╵en offrant leurs lingots d’argent.
Disperse-les, ces peuples ╵aimant la guerre !
32 De nobles messagers[t] ╵arrivent de l’Egypte,
les Ethiopiens accourent, ╵les mains tendues vers Dieu.
33 Royaumes de la terre, ╵chantez à Dieu !
Louez le Seigneur par vos chants !

34 Oui, chantez en l’honneur ╵de celui qui chevauche dans les cieux, ╵les cieux antiques,
et qui fait résonner sa voix, ╵une voix éclatante.
35 Proclamez de Dieu la puissance !
Il est majestueux ╵au-dessus d’Israël,
et sa puissance éclate ╵dans les nuées.
36 Que tu es redoutable, ô Dieu, ╵depuis ton sanctuaire !
Lui, il est le Dieu d’Israël ╵et il donne à son peuple ╵force et puissance.
Béni soit Dieu !

- 68.5 Le mot hébreu qui signifie plaines peut être rapproché d’un terme assyro-babylonien qui signifie nuages. L’expression celui qui chevauche les nuées se retrouve à Ougarit. Dieu est comparé à un chef d’armée qui chevauche à la tête de ses troupes et auquel, selon l’habitude antique, on prépare le chemin pour en ôter tout obstacle (Es 40.3). Les v. 1-18 décrivent la marche triomphale de Dieu, du Sinaï (sous Moïse) au mont Sion (sous David).

- 68.15 Selon certains, une montagne près de Sichem (Jg 9.46-48), selon d’autres, le djebel Druze, un mont volcanique à l’est du Basan, au nord-est du lac de Galilée.

1 May God arise,(A) may his enemies be scattered;(B)
may his foes flee(C) before him.
2 May you blow them away like smoke—(D)
as wax melts(E) before the fire,
may the wicked perish(F) before God.
3 But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice(G) before God;
may they be happy and joyful.
4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,(H)
extol him who rides on the clouds[b](I);
rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.(J)
5 A father to the fatherless,(K) a defender of widows,(L)
is God in his holy dwelling.(M)
6 God sets the lonely(N) in families,[c](O)
he leads out the prisoners(P) with singing;

7 When you, God, went out(R) before your people,

13 Even while you sleep among the sheep pens,[e](AD)
the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,
its feathers with shining gold.”

Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
16 why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,

the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.[g]

24 Your procession, God, has come into view,

28 Summon your power,(BI) God[j];

Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver.

sing praise(BU) to the Lord,
33 to him who rides(BV) across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,

whose power is in the heavens.

2 Gud står upp; hans fiender varda förskingrade, och de som hata honom fly för hans ansikte.
3 Såsom rök fördrives, så fördrivas de av dig; likasom vaxet smälter för eld, så förgås de ogudaktiga för Guds ansikte.
4 Men de rättfärdiga äro glada, de fröjda sig inför Gud och jubla i glädje.
5 Sjungen till Guds ära, lovsägen hans namn. Gören väg för honom som drager fram genom öknarna. Hans namn är HERREN, fröjdens inför honom;
6 de faderlösas fader och änkors försvarare, Gud i sin heliga boning,
7 en Gud som förhjälper de ensamma till ett hem, och som för de fångna ut till lycka; allenast de gensträviga måste bo i en öken.
8 Gud, när du drog ut i spetsen för ditt folk, när du gick fram i ödemarken, Sela,
9 då bävade jorden, då utgöt himmelen sina flöden inför Guds ansikte; ja, Sinai bävade för Guds ansikte; Israels Guds.
10 Ett nåderikt regn lät du falla, o Gud; ditt arvland, som försmäktade, vederkvickte du.
11 Din skara fick bo däri; genom din godhet beredde du det åt de betryckta, o Gud.
12 Herren låter höra sitt ord, stor är skaran av kvinnor som båda glädje:
13 »Härskarornas konungar fly, de fly, och husmodern därhemma får utskifta byte.
14 Viljen I då ligga stilla inom edra hägnader? Duvans vingar äro höljda i silver, och hennes fjädrar skimra av guld.
15 När den Allsmäktige förströr konungarna i landet, faller snö på Salmon.»
16 Ett Guds berg är Basans berg, ett högtoppigt berg är Basans berg.
17 Men varför sen I så avogt, I höga berg, på det berg som Gud har utkorat till sitt säte, det där ock HERREN skall bo för alltid?
18 Guds vagnar äro tiotusenden, tusen och åter tusen; Herren drog fram med dem, Sinai är nu i helgedomen.
19 Du for upp i höjden, du tog fångar, du undfick gåvor bland människorna, ja, också de gensträviga skola bo hos HERREN Gud.
20 Lovad vare Herren! Dag efter dag bär han oss; Gud är vår frälsning. Sela.
21 Gud är för oss en Gud som frälsar, och hos HERREN, Herren finnes räddning från döden.
22 Men Gud sönderkrossar sina fienders huvuden, krossar hjässan på den som går där med skuld.
23 Herren säger: »Från Basan skall jag hämta dem, från havets djup skall jag hämta dem upp,
24 så att du kan stampa med din fot i blod och låta dina hundars tunga få sin del av fienderna.»
25 Man ser, o Gud, ditt högtidståg, min Guds, min konungs, tåg inne i helgedomen.
26 Främst gå sångare, harpospelare följa efter, mitt ibland unga kvinnor som slå på pukor.
27 Lova Gud i församlingarna, loven Herren, I av Israels brunn.
28 Där går Benjamin, den yngste, han för dem an; där går skaran av Juda furstar, Sebulons furstar, Naftalis furstar.
29 Din Gud har beskärt dig makt; så håll nu vid makt, o Gud, vad du har gjort för oss.
30 I ditt tempel i Jerusalem bäre konungar fram sina skänker åt dig.
31 Näps odjuret i vassen, tjurarnas hop med deras kalvar, folken, må de ödmjukt hylla dig med sina silverstycken. Ja, han förströr de folk som finna behag i krig.
32 De mäktige skola komma hit från Egypten, Etiopien skall skynda hit till Gud, med gåvor i händerna.
33 I riken på jorden, sjungen till Guds ära; lovsägen Herren, Sela,
34 honom som far fram på urtidshimlarnas himmel. Ja, där låter han höra sin röst, en mäktig röst.
35 Given Gud makten; över Israel är hans härlighet, och hans makt är i skyarna.
36 Fruktansvärd är du, Gud, i din helgedom; Israels Gud, han giver makt och styrka åt sitt folk. Lovad vare Gud!
