To the Overcomer, A Psalm and Song of David.

¶ Praise doth rest in thee, O God, in Sion and unto thee shall the vow be performed.

O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

Words of iniquity overwhelmed me, but thou shalt purge away our rebellion.

Blessed is the man whom thou dost choose and cause to approach unto thee that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house even of thy holy temple.

With tremendous things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our saving health, who art the hope of all the ends of the earth and of those that are afar off upon the sea:

¶ Thou art he who doth establish the mountains by thy strength, being girded with valour:

He who stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves and the tumult of the Gentiles.

They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy wonders; thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

Thou dost visit the earth, and when thou hast caused it to want, thou dost greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water; thou dost prepare their grain, according to thy will.

10 Thou dost water its rows abundantly; thou dost settle its furrows; thou dost make it soft with showers of rain; thou dost bless its sprouting.

11 Thou dost crown the year with thy goodness, and thy clouds distill fatness.

12 They fall upon the habitations of the wilderness; and the hills gird themselves with happiness.

13 The plains clothe themselves with sheep, and the valleys cover themselves with grain; they give shouts of triumph, they even sing.

God’s Care for the Earth

For the choir director. A psalm of David. A song.

65 Praise is rightfully yours,[a]
God, in Zion;
vows to you will be fulfilled.(A)
All humanity will come to you,
the one who hears prayer.(B)
Iniquities overwhelm me;
only you can atone for our rebellions.(C)
How happy is the one you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house,(D)
the holiness of your temple.[b](E)

You answer us in righteousness,
with awe-inspiring works,
God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the distant seas.(F)
You establish the mountains by your power;
you are robed with strength.(G)
You silence the roar of the seas,
the roar of their waves,
and the tumult of the nations.(H)
Those who live far away are awed by your signs;
you make east and west shout for joy.(I)

You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.
God’s stream is filled with water,
for you prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with corn.(J)
10 You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and levelling its ridges.(K)
11 You crown the year with your goodness;
your carts overflow with plenty.[c](L)
12 The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.(M)
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with corn.(N)
They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.(O)

Psalm 65

Du erhörst Gebet;
darum kommt alles Fleisch zu dir.

Missetaten überwältigen mich;

deines heiligen Tempels!

Du wirst uns antworten durch furcht- gebietende [Taten] in Gerechtigkeit,
du Gott unseres Heils,
du Zuversicht aller Enden der Erde
und des fernsten Meeres;

der du mit Macht umgürtet bist;

die an den Enden [der Erde] wohnen;

und machst es sehr reich;
der Strom Gottes hat Wasser in Fülle.
Du lässt ihr Getreide gut geraten,
denn so bereitest du [das Land] zu;

11 du tränkst seine Furchen, feuchtest seine Schollen;
mit Regenschauern machst du es weich
und segnest sein Gewächs.

12 Du krönst das Jahr mit deiner Güte,
und deine Fußstapfen triefen von Fett.

13 Es triefen Auen in der Steppe,
und mit Jubel gürten sich die Hügel.

14 Die Weiden kleiden sich mit Schafen,
und die Täler bedecken sich mit Korn;
sie jauchzen, ja, sie singen.
