To the Director: A Davidic Psalm.

A Prayer for Protection

64 Hear, God, as I express my concern;
    protect me[a] from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
    from the mob of those who practice evil,
who sharpen their tongues like swords,
    and aim their bitter words like arrows,
shooting at the innocent from concealment.

Suddenly they shoot, fearing nothing.
They concoct an evil scheme for themselves;
they enumerate their hidden snares;
    they say, “Who will see them?”[b]
They devise wicked schemes, saying,
    “We have completed our plans,
        hiding them deep in our hearts.”

But God shot an arrow at them,
    and they were wounded immediately.
They tripped over their own tongues,
    and everyone who was watching ran away.
Everyone was gripped with fear
    and acknowledged God’s deeds,
        understanding what he had done.
10 The righteous rejoiced in the Lord,
    because they had fled to him for refuge.
        Let all the upright in heart exult.

Oppressed by the Wicked but Rejoicing in the Lord

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

64 Hear my voice, O God, in my [a]meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
(A)And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
(B)They say, “Who will see them?”
They devise iniquities:
“We have perfected a shrewd scheme.”
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they shall be wounded.
So He will make them stumble over their own tongue;
(C)All who see them shall flee away.
All men shall fear,
And shall (D)declare the work of God;
For they shall wisely consider His doing.

10 (E)The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him.
And all the upright in heart shall glory.

El destino del malvado

SALMO 64 (63)

Himno de David.

64 Dios mío,
¡escucha mi queja!
¡No dejes que mis enemigos
acaben con mi vida!
Son una banda de malvados;
son una pandilla de malhechores;
¡escóndeme de sus planes secretos!
Sus palabras hieren
como espada afilada;
sus palabras matan
como flechas envenenadas.
Se esconden, y desde allí
disparan contra la gente inocente;
no tienen miedo de nada ni de nadie;
¡disparan sin que nadie se lo espere!

Cuando hacen sus planes malvados,
se animan los unos a los otros;
piensan dónde esconder sus trampas,
y creen que nadie las verá.
Planean muy bien sus maldades
y creen tener el plan perfecto;
piensan que nadie los descubrirá.
Por eso, sin que lo esperen,
Dios les disparará sus flechas
y caerán heridos de muerte.
Su propia lengua será su ruina,
y quienes los vean
acabarán burlándose de ellos.
El mundo entero alabará a Dios,
hablará de sus acciones,
y llegará a entenderlas.

10 ¡Que se alegre la gente buena
por todo lo que Dios ha hecho!
¡Que todos los justos lo alaben
y pongan en él su confianza!
