A Prayer Against Enemies

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

64 God, listen to my complaint.
    ·I am afraid of my enemies;
    protect my life from them [L Protect my life from the dread of my enemies].
Hide me from ·those who plan wicked things [L the secret plans/conspiracy of the wicked],
    from that ·gang [mob; restless group] who does evil [Prov. 1:8–19].
They sharpen their tongues like swords
    and ·shoot [aim] bitter words like arrows.
From their hiding places they shoot at ·innocent [blameless] people;
    they shoot suddenly and are not afraid.
They encourage each other to do wrong.
    They talk about setting traps,
    ·thinking [or saying] ·no one will [L who can…?] see them.
They plan wicked things and say,
    “We have a perfect plan.”
The ·mind [L insides and the heart/mind] of human beings is ·hard to understand [L deep].

But God will shoot them with arrows;
    they will suddenly be struck down.
Their own ·words [tongues] will ·be used against them [L make them stumble].
    All who see them will shake their heads [C in amazement at their downfall].
Then everyone will fear God [Prov. 1:7].
    They will tell what God has done,
    and they will ·learn from [reflect on] what he has done.
10 ·Good [Righteous] people will be happy in the Lord
    and will find ·protection [refuge] in him.
Let everyone who is ·honest [virtuous in heart] praise the Lord.

For the choir director; a psalm by David.

64 Hear my voice, O God, when I complain.
Protect my life from a terrifying enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of criminals,
from the mob of troublemakers.
They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim bitter words like arrows
to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places.
They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
They encourage one another in their evil plans.
They talk about setting traps and say,
“Who can see them?”
They search for the perfect crime and say,
“We have perfected a foolproof scheme!”
Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!

But God will shoot them with an arrow.
Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
They will trip over their own tongues.
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
Everyone will be afraid and conclude,
“This is an act of God!”
They will learn from what he has done.

10 Righteous people will find joy in the Lord and take refuge in him.
Everyone whose motives are decent will be able to brag.

Oración pidiendo la protección de Dios

(1) Del maestro de coro. Salmo de David.

64 (2) Dios mío, escucha mi queja;
protege mi vida de terribles enemigos.
(3) Escóndeme de los malvados
y de sus planes secretos;
líbrame de la conspiración de los malvados,
(4) que afilan su lengua como espada
y lanzan como flechas palabras venenosas.

(5) Desde su escondite disparan contra el inocente;
disparan por sorpresa y sin temor.
(6) Se animan entre sí a hacer lo malo;
planean poner trampas escondidas
y piensan que nadie podrá verlos,
(7) que nadie investigará sus maldades.

Pero aquel que puede conocer
los pensamientos más íntimos del hombre,
hará la investigación.
(8) Dios los herirá con sus flechas,
los herirá por sorpresa;
(9) caerán por sus propias palabras,
y quienes los vean se burlarán de ellos.
(10) Todos entonces honrarán a Dios
y hablarán de sus acciones;
comprenderán lo que él ha hecho.
10 (11) El hombre bueno se alegrará en el Señor
y buscará protección en él,
y todos los hombres honrados
se sentirán satisfechos.
