Psalm 62-68
New American Standard Bible 1995
God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.
For the choir director; [a]according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
62 (A)My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him (B)is my salvation.
2 He only is my (C)rock and my salvation,
My (D)stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
3 How long will you assail a man,
That you may murder him, all of you,
Like a (E)leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;
They (F)delight in falsehood;
They (G)bless with [b]their mouth,
But inwardly they curse. [c]Selah.
5 My soul, (H)wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
6 He only is (I)my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God my (J)salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my (K)refuge is in God.
8 (L)Trust in Him at all times, O people;
(M)Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah.
9 Men of (N)low degree are only (O)vanity and men of rank are a (P)lie;
In the (Q)balances they go up;
They are together lighter than breath.
10 (R)Do not trust in oppression
And do not [d]vainly hope in (S)robbery;
If riches increase, (T)do not set your heart upon them.
11 [e]Once God has (U)spoken;
[f]Twice I have heard this:
That (V)power belongs to God;
12 And lovingkindness (W)is Yours, O Lord,
For You (X)recompense a man according to his work.
The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God.
A Psalm of David, [g]when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, (Y)You are my God; I shall seek You [h]earnestly;
My soul (Z)thirsts for You, my flesh [i]yearns for You,
In a (AA)dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 Thus I have (AB)seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your (AC)lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
4 So I will bless You (AD)as long as I live;
I will (AE)lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My soul is (AF)satisfied as with [j]marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers (AG)praises with joyful lips.
6 When I remember You (AH)on my bed,
I meditate on You in the (AI)night watches,
7 For (AJ)You have been my help,
And in the (AK)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul (AL)clings [k]to You;
Your (AM)right hand upholds me.
9 But those who (AN)seek my [l]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [m](AO)depths of the earth.
10 [n]They will be [o](AP)delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a [p](AQ)prey for foxes.
11 But the (AR)king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who (AS)swears by Him will glory,
For the (AT)mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.
Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
64 Hear my voice, O God, in (AU)my [q]complaint;
(AV)Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the (AW)secret counsel of evildoers,
From the tumult of (AX)those who do iniquity,
3 Who (AY)have sharpened their tongue like a sword.
They (AZ)aimed bitter speech as their arrow,
4 To (BA)shoot [r]from concealment at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him, and (BB)do not fear.
5 They [s]hold fast to themselves an evil purpose;
They [t]talk of (BC)laying snares secretly;
They say, “(BD)Who can see them?”
6 They [u]devise injustices, saying,
“We are [v]ready with a well-conceived plot”;
For the [w](BE)inward thought and the heart of a man are [x]deep.
7 But (BF)God [y]will shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly [z]they will be wounded.
8 So [aa]they [ab]will (BG)make him stumble;
(BH)Their own tongue is against them;
All who see them will (BI)shake the head.
9 Then all men [ac]will (BJ)fear,
And they [ad]will (BK)declare the work of God,
And [ae]will consider [af]what He has done.
10 The righteous man will be (BL)glad in the Lord and will (BM)take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will glory.
God’s Abundant Favor to Earth and Man.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
65 There will be silence [ag]before You, and praise in Zion, O God,
And to You the (BN)vow will be performed.
2 O You who hear prayer,
To You (BO)all [ah]men come.
3 [ai](BP)Iniquities prevail against me;
As for our transgressions, You [aj](BQ)forgive them.
4 How (BR)blessed is the one whom You (BS)choose and bring near to You
To dwell in Your courts.
We will be (BT)satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.
5 By (BU)awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O (BV)God of our salvation,
You who are the trust of all the (BW)ends of the earth and of the farthest [ak](BX)sea;
6 Who (BY)establishes the mountains by His strength,
Being (BZ)girded with might;
7 Who (CA)stills the roaring of the seas,
The roaring of their waves,
And the (CB)tumult of the peoples.
8 They who dwell in the (CC)ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the [al]dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and (CD)cause it to overflow;
You greatly (CE)enrich it;
The [am](CF)stream of God is full of water;
You prepare their (CG)grain, for thus You prepare [an]the earth.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
You [ao]settle its ridges,
You soften it (CH)with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You have crowned the year [ap]with Your [aq](CI)bounty,
And Your [ar]paths (CJ)drip with fatness.
12 (CK)The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the (CL)hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
13 The meadows are (CM)clothed with flocks
And the valleys are (CN)covered with grain;
They (CO)shout for joy, yes, they sing.
Praise for God’s Mighty Deeds and for His Answer to Prayer.
For the choir director. A Song. A Psalm.
66 (CP)Shout joyfully to God, all the earth;
2 Sing the (CQ)glory of His name;
Make His (CR)praise glorious.
3 Say to God, “How (CS)awesome are Your works!
Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will [as](CT)give feigned obedience to You.
4 “(CU)All the earth will worship You,
And will (CV)sing praises to You;
They will sing praises to Your name.” [at]Selah.
5 (CW)Come and see the works of God,
Who is (CX)awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.
6 He (CY)turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through (CZ)the river on foot;
There let us (DA)rejoice in Him!
7 He (DB)rules by His might forever;
His (DC)eyes keep watch on the nations;
Let not the rebellious (DD)exalt themselves. Selah.
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
And [au](DE)sound His praise abroad,
9 Who [av](DF)keeps us in life
And (DG)does not allow our feet to [aw]slip.
10 For You have (DH)tried us, O God;
You have (DI)refined us as silver is refined.
11 You (DJ)brought us into the net;
You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men (DK)ride over our heads;
We went through (DL)fire and through water,
Yet You (DM)brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall (DN)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall (DO)pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was (DP)in distress.
15 I shall (DQ)offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of (DR)rams;
I shall make an offering of [ax]bulls with male goats. Selah.
16 (DS)Come and hear, all who [ay]fear God,
And I will (DT)tell of what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And [az]He was (DU)extolled with my tongue.
18 If I [ba](DV)regard wickedness in my heart,
The (DW)Lord [bb]will not [bc]hear;
19 But certainly (DX)God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 (DY)Blessed be God,
Who (DZ)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.
The Nations Exhorted to Praise God.
For the choir director; with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
67 God be gracious to us and (EA)bless us,
And (EB)cause His face to shine [bd]upon us— [be]Selah.
2 That (EC)Your way may be known on the earth,
(ED)Your salvation among all nations.
3 Let the (EE)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
4 Let the (EF)nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will (EG)judge the peoples with uprightness
And (EH)guide the nations on the earth. Selah.
5 Let the (EI)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
6 The (EJ)earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, (EK)blesses us.
7 God blesses us,
[bf]That (EL)all the ends of the earth may fear Him.
The God of Sinai and of the Sanctuary.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
68 [bg]Let (EM)God arise, [bh]let His enemies be scattered,
And [bi]let those who hate Him flee before Him.
2 As (EN)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As (EO)wax melts before the fire,
So let the (EP)wicked perish before God.
3 But let the (EQ)righteous be glad; let them exult before God;
Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.
4 Sing to God, (ER)sing praises to His name;
[bj](ES)Lift up a song for Him who (ET)rides through the deserts,
Whose (EU)name is [bk]the Lord, and exult before Him.
5 A (EV)father of the fatherless and a (EW)judge [bl]for the widows,
Is God in His (EX)holy habitation.
6 God [bm](EY)makes a home for the lonely;
He (EZ)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only (FA)the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
7 O God, when You (FB)went forth before Your people,
When You (FC)marched through the wilderness, [bn]Selah.
8 The (FD)earth quaked;
The (FE)heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
[bo](FF)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 You (FG)shed abroad a plentiful rain, O God;
You confirmed Your inheritance when it was [bp]parched.
10 Your creatures settled in it;
You (FH)provided in Your goodness for the poor, O God.
11 The Lord gives the [bq]command;
The (FI)women who proclaim the good tidings are a great host:
12 “(FJ)Kings of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home will (FK)divide the spoil!”
13 [br]When you lie down (FL)among the [bs]sheepfolds,
You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with glistening gold.
14 When the Almighty (FM)scattered the kings [bt]there,
It was snowing in (FN)Zalmon.
15 A [bu](FO)mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;
A mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan.
16 Why do you look with envy, O mountains with many peaks,
At the mountain which God has (FP)desired for His abode?
Surely (FQ)the Lord will dwell there forever.
17 The (FR)chariots of God are [bv]myriads, (FS)thousands upon thousands;
[bw]The Lord is among them as at Sinai, in holiness.
18 You have (FT)ascended on high, You have (FU)led captive Your captives;
You have received gifts among men,
Even among the rebellious also, that [bx]the Lord God may dwell there.
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily (FV)bears our burden,
(FW)The God who is our salvation. Selah.
20 God is to us a (FX)God of deliverances;
And (FY)to [by]God the Lord belong escapes [bz]from death.
21 Surely God will (FZ)shatter the head of His enemies,
The hairy crown of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.
22 The Lord [ca]said, “(GA)I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea;
23 That [cb](GB)your foot may shatter them in blood,
The tongue of your (GC)dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”
24 They have seen (GD)Your [cc]procession, O God,
The [cd]procession of my God, my King, [ce](GE)into the sanctuary.
25 The (GF)singers went on, the musicians after them,
[cf]In the midst of the (GG)maidens beating tambourines.
26 (GH)Bless God in the congregations,
Even the Lord, you who are of the (GI)fountain of Israel.
27 There is (GJ)Benjamin, the [cg]youngest, [ch]ruling them,
The princes of Judah in their throng,
The princes of (GK)Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
28 [ci]Your God has (GL)commanded your strength;
Show Yourself strong, O God, (GM)who have acted [cj]on our behalf.
29 [ck]Because of Your temple at Jerusalem
(GN)Kings will bring gifts to You.
30 Rebuke the (GO)beasts [cl]in the reeds,
The herd of (GP)bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Trampling under foot the pieces of silver;
He has (GQ)scattered the peoples who delight in war.
31 Envoys will come out of (GR)Egypt;
[cm](GS)Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.
32 Sing to God, O (GT)kingdoms of the earth,
(GU)Sing praises to the Lord, Selah.
33 To Him who (GV)rides upon the [cn](GW)highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, (GX)He [co]speaks forth with His voice, a (GY)mighty voice.
34 (GZ)Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel
And (HA)His strength is in the [cp]skies.
35 [cq]O God, You are (HB)awesome from Your [cr]sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself (HC)gives strength and power to the people.
(HD)Blessed be God!
