Psalm 62:5-12

⁵For God alone, O ^(A)my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
⁶^(B)He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
⁷On God rests my ^(C)salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, ^(D)my refuge is God.

⁸^(E)Trust in him at all times, O people;
^(F)pour out your heart before him;
God is ^(G)a refuge for us. Selah

⁹^(H)Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate ^(I)are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;

¹⁰Put no trust in extortion;
    ^(K)set no vain hopes on robbery;
    ^(L)if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

2 And Hannah prayed and said,

^(B)my horn is exalted in the Lord.
My mouth derides my enemies,
because ^(C)I rejoice in your salvation.

²^(D)“There is none holy like the Lord:
    for there is none besides you;
    there is ^(E)no rock like our God.
³Talk no more so very proudly,
    let not arrogance come from your mouth;
for the Lord is a God of knowledge,
    and by him actions are weighed.
⁴^(F)The bows of the mighty are broken,
    but the feeble bind on strength.
⁵Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread,
    but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger.

    he brings down to Sheol and raises up.
⁷^(J)The Lord makes poor and makes rich;

    and inherit a seat of honor.

    and on them he has set the world.

⁹^(O)“He will guard the feet of his faithful ones,
    but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness,
    for not by might shall a man prevail.
¹⁰^(P)The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces;
    ^(Q)against them he will thunder in heaven.
^(R)The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;
    he will give strength to his king
    ^(S)and exalt the horn of his anointed.”

Who Is the Greatest?

18 ^(A)At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” ²And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them ³and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you ^(B)turn and ^(C)become like children, you ^(D)will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴^(E)Whoever humbles himself like this child is the ^(F)greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

⁵^(G)“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, ⁶but ^(H)whoever causes one of these ^(I)little ones who believe in me to sin,^[a] it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Temptations to Sin

⁷“Woe to the world for ^(J)temptations to sin!^[b] ^(K)For it is necessary that temptations come, ^(L)but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! ⁸^(M)And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into ^(N)the eternal fire. ⁹^(O)And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the ^(P)hell^[c] of fire.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

¹⁰“See that you do not despise ^(Q)one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven ^(R)their angels always ^(S)see the face of my Father who is in heaven.^[d]
