Psalm 55
Good News Translation
The Prayer of Someone Betrayed by a Friend[a]
55 Hear my prayer, O God;
don't turn away from my plea!
2 Listen to me and answer me;
I am worn out by my worries.
3 I am terrified by the threats of my enemies,
crushed by the oppression of the wicked.
They bring trouble on me;
they are angry with me and hate me.
4 I am terrified,
and the terrors of death crush me.
5 I am gripped by fear and trembling;
I am overcome with horror.
6 I wish I had wings like a dove.
I would fly away and find rest.
7 I would fly far away
and make my home in the desert.
8 I would hurry and find myself a shelter
from the raging wind and the storm.
9 Confuse the speech of my enemies, O Lord!
I see violence and riots in the city,
10 surrounding it day and night,
filling it with crime and trouble.
11 There is destruction everywhere;
the streets are full of oppression and fraud.
12 If it were an enemy making fun of me,
I could endure it;
if it were an opponent boasting over me,
I could hide myself from him.
13 But it is you, my companion,
my colleague and close friend.
14 We had intimate talks with each other
and worshiped together in the Temple.
15 May my enemies die before their time;
may they go down alive into the world of the dead!
Evil is in their homes and in their hearts.
16 But I call to the Lord God for help,
and he will save me.
17 Morning, noon, and night
my complaints and groans go up to him,
and he will hear my voice.
18 He will bring me safely back
from the battles that I fight
against so many enemies.
19 God, who has ruled from eternity,
will hear me and defeat them;
for they refuse to change,
and they do not fear him.
20 My former companion attacked his friends;
he broke his promises.
21 His words were smoother than cream,
but there was hatred in his heart;
his words were as soothing as oil,
but they cut like sharp swords.
22 Leave your troubles with the Lord,
and he will defend you;
he never lets honest people be defeated.
23 But you, O God, will bring those murderers and liars to their graves
before half their life is over.
As for me, I will trust in you.

Psalmi 55
Biblija: suvremeni hrvatski prijevod
Neprijatelji progone, a prijatelj izdaje
Voditelju zbora. Uz žičana glazbala. Davidov »maskil«.
55 Poslušaj moju molitvu, Bože,
ne skrivaj se od moje molbe.
2 Obrati pažnju i odgovori mi,
tjeskoban sam u svojoj nevolji.
3 Neprijatelji viču na mene,
zločinci me ugnjetavaju.
Donose mi nevolje,
u svom gnjevu me mrze.
4 Srce u meni lupa,
smrtni užas me spopada,
5 strah i drhtaj me obuzeo,
jeza me preplavila.
6 Rekao sam: »Da su mi golubova krila,
odletio bih da nađem mir!
7 Daleko bih odlepršao,
u pustinji bih boravio. Selah
8 Pobjegao bih u sklonište
od bijesnog vjetra i oluje.«
9 Pobrkaj im govor, Gospodaru, odreži im jezike
jer u gradu vidim svađu i nasilje.
10 Danju i noću kruže po zidinama,
zlo i opačina je usred grada.
11 Propast se u njemu smjestila,
nasilje i prijevara stalno su na ulicama.
12 Da me uvrijedio neprijatelj,
to bih podnio.
Da se digao na mene mrzitelj,
od njega bih se sakrio.
13 Ali to si učinio ti, moj bližnji,
moj prijatelj, kojeg dobro poznajem.
14 Nekad smo prisno razgovarali,
zajedno u Božjem Hramu hodali.
15 Neka neprijatelje zaskoči smrt,
neka živi siđu u svijet mrtvih
jer zlo je u njihovim domovima i srcima.
16 A ja ću Boga pozvati
i BOG će me spasiti.
17 Uvečer, ujutro i u podne, žalim se i jecam,
i on će čuti moj glas.
18 Zdravog i živog će me izbaviti
iz bitke koju vodim s mnogima.
19 Bog će čuti i njih poraziti,
jer oduvijek on kraljuje,
22 Predaj BOGU svoje brige
i on će se pobrinuti za tebe;
nikad neće dopustiti da pravednik padne.
23 A zlikovce ti ćeš, Bože, u grob oboriti.
Ubojice i varalice ni pola svojih dana neće doživjeti.
Ali ja, ja ću se u tebe pouzdati.
Psalm 55
New King James Version
Trust in God Concerning the Treachery of Friends
To the Chief Musician. With [a]stringed instruments. A [b]Contemplation of David.
55 Give ear to my prayer, O God,
And do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
2 Attend to me, and hear me;
I (A)am[c] restless in my complaint, and moan noisily,
3 Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked;
(B)For they bring down trouble upon me,
And in wrath they hate me.
4 (C)My heart is severely pained within me,
And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me,
And horror has overwhelmed me.
6 So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.
7 Indeed, I would wander far off,
And remain in the wilderness. Selah
8 I would hasten my escape
From the windy storm and tempest.”
9 Destroy, O Lord, and divide their [d]tongues,
For I have seen (D)violence and strife in the city.
10 Day and night they go around it on its walls;
(E)Iniquity and trouble are also in the midst of it.
11 Destruction is in its midst;
(F)Oppression and deceit do not depart from its streets.
12 (G)For it is not an enemy who reproaches me;
Then I could bear it.
Nor is it one who hates me who has (H)exalted himself against me;
Then I could hide from him.
13 But it was you, a man my equal,
(I)My companion and my acquaintance.
14 We took sweet counsel together,
And (J)walked to the house of God in the throng.
15 Let death seize them;
Let them (K)go down alive into [e]hell,
For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.
16 As for me, I will call upon God,
And the Lord shall save me.
17 (L)Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.
18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me,
For (M)there were many against me.
19 God will hear, and afflict them,
(N)Even He who abides from of old. Selah
Because they do not change,
Therefore they do not fear God.
20 He has (O)put forth his hands against those who (P)were at peace with him;
He has broken his [f]covenant.
21 (Q)The words of his mouth were smoother than butter,
But war was in his heart;
His words were softer than oil,
Yet they were drawn swords.
22 (R)Cast your burden on the Lord,
And (S)He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be [g]moved.
23 But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction;
(T)Bloodthirsty and deceitful men (U)shall not live out half their days;
But I will trust in You.
