Es gibt keinen, der Gutes tut[a]
53 Für den Dirigenten[b]. Mit gedämpfter Instrumentalbegleitung[c]. Ein kunstvoll gestaltetes Lied[d]. Von David.
2 Törichte Spötter[e] reden sich ein: »Es gibt keinen Gott!«
Sie richten Unheil an, ihr ganzes Verhalten ist abscheuliches Unrecht.
Keiner handelt so, wie es gut wäre.
3 Gott schaut vom Himmel herab auf die Menschen.
Er möchte sehen, ob es einen unter ihnen gibt, der verständig ist,
einen, der nach Gott fragt.
4 Doch alle sind ´vom richtigen Weg` abgewichen,
sie sind durch und durch verdorben.
Keiner handelt so, wie es gut wäre, nicht ein Einziger.
5 Haben denn alle, die Unrecht tun, keine Einsicht mehr?
Sie fressen mein Volk auf, so als wäre es ein Stück Brot,
und zu Gott rufen sie überhaupt nicht.
6 Doch der Tag wird kommen,
an dem sie von Schrecken gepackt werden,
obwohl es keinen Grund dafür gibt.
´Israel`, Gott vernichtet deine Feinde und Belagerer,
ihre Leichen liegen verstreut auf den Feldern.
Du, ´Israel`, stürzt deine Feinde in Schande,
denn Gott selbst hat sie verstoßen.[f]
7 Käme doch endlich vom Berg Zion die Rettung für ganz Israel!
Wenn Gott das Geschick seines Volkes zum Guten wendet[g],
dann wird ganz Israel in Jubel ausbrechen,
überall im Land wird Freude herrschen[h].

Folly of the Godless, and the Restoration of Israel(A)

53 The (B)fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity;
(C)There is none who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who (D)seek God.
3 Every one of them has turned aside;
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity (E)no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call upon God?
5 (F)There they are in great fear
Where no fear was,
For God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you;
You have put them to shame,
Because God has despised them.
6 (G)Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When God brings back [b]the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

53 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

There Is None Who Does Good

53 (B)The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,[b]
who seek after God.
3 They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
4 Have those who work evil no knowledge,
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon God?
5 There they are, in great terror,
(C)where there is no terror!
For God (D)scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
