Tröst mot våld och förtal
David skrev denna psalm som en protest mot att hans fiende Doeg dödade 85 präster och deras familjer.1-3 Du kallar dig hjälte, eller hur? Du skryter om dina ogudaktiga handlingar mot Guds folk.
4 Din tunga är vass som en rakkniv, och det onda du gör har du planerat väl.
5 Du älskar det onda mer än det goda!
6 Du älskar lögn mer än sanning! Du älskar att skvallra, och du kan säga vad som helst bara för att skada andra. Å, vilken lögnhals du är!
7 Men Gud kommer att slå ner dig för gott. Han kommer att dra iväg med dig från ditt hem och släpa dig bort från de levandes land.
8 De som älskar Gud kommer att se det och bli förskräckta. Men sedan kommer de att skratta och säga:
9 Titta, så går det för den som inte hoppas på Gud, utan i stället litar på sin rikedom och går allt längre i sin ondska.
10 Men jag är som ett olivträd, som vårdas av Herren. För all framtid litar jag på Guds barmhärtighet.
11 Herre, jag vill alltid tacka dig för vad du gjort. Inför alla dem som älskar dig vill jag tala om hur god du är!

English Standard Version
The Steadfast Love of God Endures
To the choirmaster. A Maskil[a] of David, when (A)Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”
52 Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
2 Your (B)tongue plots destruction,
like (C)a sharp razor, you (D)worker of deceit.
3 You love evil more than good,
and (E)lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
4 You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.
5 But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and (F)tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from (G)the land of the living. Selah
6 The righteous shall (H)see and fear,
and shall (I)laugh at him, saying,
7 “See the man who would not make
God his refuge,
but (J)trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction!”[b]
8 But I am like (K)a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
forever and ever.
9 I will thank you forever,
because you have done it.
I will wait for your name, (L)for it is good,
in the presence of the (M)godly.

52 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
2 The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
