²Dieses Lied stammt aus der Zeit, als der Edomiter Doëg zu Saul gekommen war und ihm verraten hatte: »David war bei Ahimelech!«^[a]

³Warum lässt du dich als Held feiern und gibst mit deiner Bosheit an?
    Auch du bist nur von Gottes Güte abhängig!^[b]
⁴Mit deinen Worten verletzt du andere
    wie mit einem scharfen Messer, du Lügner!
⁵Du liebst das Böse mehr als das Gute,
    die Lüge mehr als die Wahrheit.
⁶Du redest, um zu zerstören,
    und hast noch deinen Spaß daran, du Heuchler!
⁷Darum wird Gott auch dich für immer zerstören:
Er wird dich ergreifen und aus deinem Haus zerren;
    er wird dich aus dem Leben reißen, so wie man Unkraut ausreißt.

⁸Alle, die zu Gott gehören, werden es sehen und erschrecken.
    Dann aber werden sie über dich lachen und sagen:
⁹»Schaut ihn an!
    Statt bei Gott Schutz zu suchen,
verließ er sich auf seinen großen Reichtum
    und glaubte, seine Bosheit mache ihn stark!«

¹⁰Ich aber darf wachsen und gedeihen wie ein Ölbaum,
der im Schutz von Gottes Haus grünt.
    Für alle Zeiten weiß ich mich geborgen, weil Gott mir gnädig ist.
¹¹Immer und ewig will ich dir danken, Gott,
    für das, was du getan hast;
vor allen, die treu zu dir stehen, will ich bezeugen, wie gut du bist!
    Auf dich setze ich mein ganzes Vertrauen!

52 ⁽⁰⁾For the leader. A maskil of David, ²when Do’eg from Edom came and told Sha’ul, “David has arrived at the house of Achimelekh”:

³⁽¹⁾Why do you boast of your evil, you tyrant,
when God’s mercy is present every day?
⁴⁽²⁾Your tongue, as sharp as a razor,
plots destruction and works deception.

⁵⁽³⁾You love evil more than good,
lies rather than speaking uprightly. (Selah)
⁶⁽⁴⁾You love all words that eat people up,
you deceitful tongue!

⁷⁽⁵⁾This is why God will strike you down,
seize you, pluck you from your tent
and uproot you from the land of the living. (Selah)

⁸⁽⁶⁾The righteous will see and be awestruck;
they will jeer at him, saying,
⁹⁽⁷⁾“This fellow would not make God his refuge,
but trusted in his own great wealth,
relying on his evil plots.”

¹⁰⁽⁸⁾But I am like a leafy olive tree
in the house of God;
I put my trust in the grace of God
forever and ever.

¹¹⁽⁹⁾I will praise you forever for what you have done,
and I will put my hope in your name;
for this is what is good
in the presence of your faithful.

For the director of music. A maskil^[b] of David. When Doeg the Edomite^(A) had gone to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.”

¹Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
    Why do you boast^(B) all day long,^(C)
    you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
²You who practice deceit,^(D)
    your tongue plots destruction;^(E)
    it is like a sharpened razor.^(F)
³You love evil^(G) rather than good,
    falsehood^(H) rather than speaking the truth.^[c]
⁴You love every harmful word,
    you deceitful tongue!^(I)

⁵Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:
    He will snatch you up and pluck^(J) you from your tent;
    he will uproot^(K) you from the land of the living.^(L)
⁶The righteous will see and fear;
    they will laugh^(M) at you, saying,
⁷“Here now is the man
    who did not make God his stronghold^(N)
but trusted in his great wealth^(O)
    and grew strong by destroying others!”

⁸But I am like an olive tree^(P)
    flourishing in the house of God;
I trust^(Q) in God’s unfailing love
    for ever and ever.
⁹For what you have done I will always praise you^(R)
    in the presence of your faithful people.^(S)
And I will hope in your name,^(T)
    for your name is good.^(U)

²The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

³Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

⁴Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

⁵God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁶The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

⁷Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
