Psalm 52
God Judges the Proud
For the choir director. A Maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite went and reported to Saul, telling him, “David went to Ahimelech’s house.”(A)
1 Why boast about evil, you hero!(B)
God’s faithful love is constant.(C)
2 Like a sharpened razor,
your tongue devises destruction,
working treachery.(D)
3 You love evil instead of good,
lying instead of speaking truthfully.(E)Selah
4 You love any words that destroy,
you treacherous tongue!(F)
5 This is why God will bring you down forever.
He will take you, ripping you out of your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.(G)Selah
6 The righteous will see and fear,
and they will derisively say about that hero,[a](H)
7 “Here is the man
who would not make God his refuge,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
taking refuge in his destructive behavior.”(I)
8 But I am like a flourishing olive tree
in the house of God;(J)
I trust in God’s faithful love forever and ever.(K)
9 I will praise you forever for what you have done.
In the presence of your faithful people,
I will put my hope in your name, for it is good.(L)

Thanksgiving
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints 5 because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. You have already heard about this hope in the word of truth,(A) the gospel 6 that has come to you. It is bearing fruit(B) and growing all over the world,(C) just as it has among you since the day you heard it and came to truly appreciate(D) God’s grace.[a](E) 7 You learned this from Epaphras,(F) our dearly loved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ(G) on your[b] behalf, 8 and he has told us about your love in the Spirit.(H)
Prayer for Spiritual Growth
9 For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking(I) that you may be filled with the knowledge(J) of his will(K) in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,[c] 10 so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work(L) and growing in the knowledge of God,(M) 11 being strengthened(N) with all power,(O) according to his glorious(P) might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you[d] to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.(Q) 13 He has rescued(R) us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom(S) of the Son(T) he loves.(U) 14 In him we have redemption,[e] the forgiveness of sins.

Growth in the Faith
3 His[a] divine power(A) has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge(B) of him who called(C) us by[b] his own glory and goodness. 4 By these he has given us very great and precious promises,(D) so that through them you may share in the divine nature,(E) escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, 6 knowledge with self-control,(F) self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, 7 godliness with brotherly affection,(G) and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless(H) or unfruitful(I) in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins. 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election,(J) because if you do these things you will never stumble. 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom(K) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.
12 Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth(L) you now have. 13 I think it is right, as long as I am in this bodily tent,(M) to wake you up with a reminder, 14 since I know that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has indeed made clear to me.(N) 15 And I will also make every effort so that you are able to recall these things at any time after my departure.[c]
