A Prayer of Repentance

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David (A)when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

51 Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
(B)Blot out my transgressions.
(C)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
(D)Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil (E)in Your sight—
(F)That You may be found just [a]when You speak,
And blameless when You judge.

(G)Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

(H)Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be (I)whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken (J)may rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 (K)Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your (L)Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your (M)generous Spirit.

A New Covenant

31 “Behold, the (A)days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that (B)I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, [a]though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 (C)But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: (D)I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their [b]hearts; (E)and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for (F)they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For (G)I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

A Priest Forever

(A)So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:

(B)“You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.”

As He also says in another place:

(C)“You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek”;

who, in the days of His flesh, when He had (D)offered up prayers and supplications, (E)with vehement cries and tears to Him (F)who was able to save Him from death, and was heard (G)because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned (H)obedience by the things which He suffered. And (I)having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest (J)“according to the order of Melchizedek,”

The Fruitful Grain of Wheat

20 Now there (A)were certain Greeks among those (B)who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, (C)who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

23 But Jesus answered them, saying, (D)“The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, (E)unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much [a]grain. 25 (F)He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him (G)follow Me; and (H)where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Jesus Predicts His Death on the Cross

27 (I)“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? (J)But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.”

(K)Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

30 Jesus answered and said, (L)“This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now (M)the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, (N)if I am [b]lifted up from the earth, will draw (O)all peoples to Myself.” 33 (P)This He said, signifying by what death He would die.
