³ Our God comes; he ^(F)does not keep silence;^[a]
    before him is a devouring ^(G)fire,
    around him a mighty tempest.
^4 (H)He calls to the heavens above
    and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
⁵ “Gather to me my faithful ones,
    who made ^(I)a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
^6 (J)The heavens declare his righteousness,
    for ^(K)God himself is judge! Selah

^7 (L)“Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
    O Israel, I will testify against you.
    ^(M)I am God, your God.
⁸ Not for your sacrifices ^(N)do I rebuke you;
    your burnt offerings are continually before me.
⁹ I will not accept a bull from your house
    or goats from your folds.
¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is mine,
    the cattle on a thousand hills.
^11 (O)I know all the birds of the hills,
    and all that moves in the field is mine.

¹² “If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
    ^(P)for the world and its fullness are mine.
¹³ Do I eat the flesh of bulls
    or drink the blood of goats?
^14 (Q)Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,^[b]
    and ^(R)perform your vows to the Most High,
¹⁵ and ^(S)call upon me in the day of trouble;
    I will ^(T)deliver you, and you shall ^(U)glorify me.”

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says:
    “What right have you to recite my statutes
    or take my covenant on your lips?
^17 (V)For you hate discipline,
    ^(W)and you cast my words behind you.
¹⁸ If you see a thief, ^(X)you are pleased with him,
    ^(Y)and you keep company with adulterers.

¹⁹ “You give your mouth free rein for evil,
    ^(Z)and your tongue frames deceit.
²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother;
    you slander your own mother's son.
²¹ These things you have done, and I ^(AA)have been silent;
    you thought that I^[c] was one like yourself.
But now I ^(AB)rebuke you and ^(AC)lay the charge before you.

²² “Mark this, then, you who ^(AD)forget God,
    lest I tear you apart, and there be ^(AE)none to deliver!
²³ The one who ^(AF)offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
    to one who ^(AG)orders his way rightly
    I will show the ^(AH)salvation of God!”

^3 (I)The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
⁴ Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
    mightier than the waves of the sea,
    ^(J)the Lord ^(K)on high is mighty!

⁵ Your ^(L)decrees are very trustworthy;
    ^(M)holiness befits your house,
    O Lord, forevermore.

⁷ Ascribe to the Lord, O ^(I)families of the peoples,
    ^(J)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
⁸ Ascribe to the Lord ^(K)the glory due his name;
    bring ^(L)an offering, and ^(M)come into his courts!
⁹ Worship the Lord in ^(N)the splendor of holiness;^{[a]
    (O)}tremble before him, all the earth!

¹⁰ Say among the nations, ^(P)“The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will ^(Q)judge the peoples with equity.”

¹¹ Let ^(R)the heavens be glad, and let ^(S)the earth rejoice;
    let ^(T)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
¹²     let ^(U)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all ^(V)the trees of the forest sing for joy
¹³     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes ^(W)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

⁵ “If I have walked with falsehood
    and my foot has hastened to deceit;
⁶ (Let me be ^(F)weighed in a just balance,
    and let God know my integrity!)
⁷ if my step has turned aside from the way
    and ^(G)my heart has gone after my eyes,
    and if any ^(H)spot has stuck to my hands,
⁸ then let me ^(I)sow, and another eat,
    and let what grows for me^[a] be rooted out.

⁹ “If my heart has been enticed toward a woman,
    and I have ^(J)lain in wait at my neighbor's door,
¹⁰ then let my wife ^(K)grind for another,
    and let others ^(L)bow down on her.
¹¹ For that would be a heinous crime;
    that would be an iniquity ^(M)to be punished by the judges;
¹² for that would be a fire ^(N)that consumes as far as Abaddon,
    and it would burn to the root all my increase.

¹³ “If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or my maidservant,
    when they brought a complaint against me,
¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up?
    When he ^(O)makes inquiry, what shall I answer him?
¹⁵ Did ^(P)not he who made me in the womb make him?
    And did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁶ “If I have ^(Q)withheld anything that the poor desired,
    or have ^(R)caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone,
    and the fatherless has not eaten of it
¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless^[b] grew up with me as with a father,
    and from my mother's womb I guided the widow^[c]),
¹⁹ if I have seen anyone ^(S)perish for ^(T)lack of clothing,
    or the needy without ^(U)covering,
²⁰ if his body has not ^(V)blessed me,^[d]
    and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep,
²¹ if I have raised my hand against ^(W)the fatherless,
    because I saw my help in ^(X)the gate,
²² then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder,
    and let my arm be broken from its socket.
²³ For I was ^(Y)in terror of calamity from God,
    and I could not have faced his ^(Z)majesty.
