Zion, the City of Our God

A Song. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

48 (B)Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
    in (C)the city of our God!
His (D)holy mountain, (E)beautiful in elevation,
    is (F)the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
    (G)the city of the great King.
Within her citadels God
    has made himself known as a fortress.

For behold, (H)the kings assembled;
    they came on together.
As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
    they were in panic; they took to flight.
(I)Trembling took hold of them there,
    anguish (J)as of a woman in labor.
By (K)the east wind you (L)shattered
    the ships of (M)Tarshish.
As we have heard, so have we seen
    in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in (N)the city of our God,
    which God will (O)establish forever. Selah

We have thought on your (P)steadfast love, O God,
    in the midst of your temple.
10 As your (Q)name, O God,
    so your praise reaches to (R)the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11     Let Mount (S)Zion be glad!
Let (T)the daughters of Judah rejoice
    because of your judgments!

12 Walk about Zion, go around her,
    number her towers,
13 consider well her (U)ramparts,
    go through her citadels,
(V)that you may tell the next generation
14     that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
    He will (W)guide us forever.[a]

The Beauty and Glory of Zion.

A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah.

48 (A)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In the (B)city of our God, His (C)holy mountain.
(D)Beautiful in elevation, (E)the joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion in the far north,
The (F)city of the great King.
In its palaces,
God has made Himself known as a (G)stronghold.

For, behold, the (H)kings arrived,
They passed by together.
They saw it, then they were amazed;
They were (I)terrified, they fled in a hurry.
[a]Panic seized them there,
Anguish, as that of (J)a woman in childbirth.
With the (K)east wind
You (L)smash the (M)ships of Tarshish.
Just as we have heard, so have we seen
In the city of the Lord of armies, in the city of our God;
God will (N)establish her forever. Selah

We have thought over (O)Your goodness, God,
In the midst of Your temple.
10 As is Your (P)name, God,
So is Your (Q)praise to the ends of the earth;
Your (R)right hand is full of righteousness.
11 Mount (S)Zion shall be glad,
The (T)daughters of Judah shall rejoice
Because of Your judgments.
12 Walk around Zion and encircle her;
Count her (U)towers;
13 Consider her (V)ramparts;
Go through her palaces,
So that you may (W)tell of her to the next generation.
14 For [b]such is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will (X)lead us [c]until death.

La ciudad de Dios

SALMO 48 (47)

Himno compuesto por la familia de Coré.

48 1-2 Poderoso es nuestro Dios
y merece nuestra alabanza.
En el templo del monte Sión
habita nuestro Dios y Rey.
¡Allí la tierra se alegra!
¡Allí la tierra lo adora!

Dios protege nuestra ciudad;
por él vivimos confiados.

Algunos reyes se unieron
para atacar la ciudad,
pero cuando la vieron
ya no supieron qué hacer;
se asustaron por completo
y se echaron a correr.
Tú los llenaste de miedo.
Como heridos de muerte,
se retorcían de dolor.
Tú los llenaste de miedo,
parecían marineros
en violenta tempestad.

Eso ya lo sabíamos;
en la ciudad de nuestro Dios
lo hemos confirmado:
el Dios del universo,
hará que esta ciudad
permanezca para siempre.

Dios mío, Dios mío,
en tu templo nos ponemos a pensar
en la grandeza de tu amor.
10 Tu fama llega
hasta el fin del mundo;
por todas partes
se habla bien de ti.
¡Tú gobiernas con justicia!
11 En el monte Sión,
y entre los pueblos de Judá
tus justas decisiones
son motivo de alegría.

12 ¡Vengan a Jerusalén!
¡Den un paseo por ella
y vean cuántas torres tiene!
13 ¡Fíjense en sus murallas,
y revisen sus fortalezas!
Así podrán contárselo
a los que todavía no han nacido.
14 ¡Éste es nuestro Dios!
¡Nuestro Dios es un Dios eterno
que siempre guiará nuestra vida!
