Psalm 45-47
New American Standard Bible 1995
A Song Celebrating the King’s Marriage.
For the choir director; according to the [a]Shoshannim. A [b]Maskil of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love.
45 My heart [c]overflows with a good theme;
I [d]address my [e]verses to the [f]King;
My tongue is the pen of (A)a ready writer.
2 You are fairer than the sons of men;
(B)Grace is poured [g]upon Your lips;
Therefore God has (C)blessed You forever.
3 Gird (D)Your sword on Your thigh, O [h](E)Mighty One,
In Your splendor and Your majesty!
4 And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth and (F)meekness and righteousness;
Let Your (G)right hand teach You [i]awesome things.
5 Your (H)arrows are sharp;
The (I)peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are (J)in the heart of the King’s enemies.
6 (K)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of (L)uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7 You have (M)loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has (N)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your fellows.
8 All Your garments are fragrant with (O)myrrh and aloes and cassia;
Out of ivory palaces (P)stringed instruments have made You glad.
9 Kings’ daughters are among (Q)Your noble ladies;
At Your (R)right hand stands the queen in (S)gold from Ophir.
10 Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear:
(T)Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will desire your beauty.
Because He is your (U)Lord, (V)bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of (W)Tyre will come with a gift;
The (X)rich among the people will seek your favor.
13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is (Y)interwoven with gold.
14 She will be (Z)led to the King (AA)in embroidered work;
The (AB)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.
16 In place of your fathers will be your sons;
You shall make them princes in all the earth.
17 I will cause (AC)Your name to be remembered in all generations;
Therefore the peoples (AD)will give You thanks forever and ever.
God the Refuge of His People.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah, [j]set to Alamoth. A Song.
46 God is our (AE)refuge and strength,
[k]A very (AF)present help (AG)in [l]trouble.
2 Therefore we will (AH)not fear, though (AI)the earth should change
And though (AJ)the mountains slip into the heart of the [m]sea;
3 Though its (AK)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. [n]Selah.
4 There is a (AL)river whose streams make glad the (AM)city of God,
The holy (AN)dwelling places of the Most High.
5 God is (AO)in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will (AP)help her [o]when morning dawns.
6 The [p]nations (AQ)made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He [q](AR)raised His voice, the earth (AS)melted.
7 The Lord of hosts (AT)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (AU)our stronghold. Selah.
8 Come, (AV)behold the works of the Lord,
[r]Who has wrought (AW)desolations in the earth.
9 He (AX)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (AY)breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He (AZ)burns the chariots with fire.
10 “[s]Cease striving and (BA)know that I am God;
I will be (BB)exalted among the [t]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
God the King of the Earth.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
47 O (BC)clap your hands, all peoples;
(BD)Shout to God with the voice of [u]joy.
2 For the Lord Most High is to be (BE)feared,
A (BF)great King over all the earth.
3 He (BG)subdues peoples under us
And nations under our feet.
4 He chooses our (BH)inheritance for us,
The (BI)glory of Jacob whom He loves. [v]Selah.
5 God has (BJ)ascended [w]with a shout,
The Lord, [x]with the (BK)sound of a trumpet.
6 (BL)Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to (BM)our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the (BN)King of all the earth;
Sing praises (BO)with a [y]skillful psalm.
8 God (BP)reigns over the nations,
God [z]sits on (BQ)His holy throne.
9 The [aa](BR)princes of the people have assembled themselves as the (BS)people of the God of Abraham,
For the (BT)shields of the earth belong to God;
He [ab]is (BU)highly exalted.
