New International Version

Psalm 45[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil.[b] A wedding song.(A)

1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme
    as I recite my verses for the king;
    my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.

2 You are the most excellent of men
    and your lips have been anointed with grace,(B)
    since God has blessed you forever.(C)

3 Gird your sword(D) on your side, you mighty one;(E)
    clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.(F)
4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously(G)
    in the cause of truth, humility and justice;(H)
    let your right hand(I) achieve awesome deeds.(J)
5 Let your sharp arrows(K) pierce the hearts(L) of the king’s enemies;(M)
    let the nations fall beneath your feet.
6 Your throne, O God,[c] will last for ever and ever;(N)
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness(O) and hate wickedness;(P)
    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
    by anointing(Q) you with the oil of joy.(R)
8 All your robes are fragrant(S) with myrrh(T) and aloes(U) and cassia;(V)
    from palaces adorned with ivory(W)
    the music of the strings(X) makes you glad.
9 Daughters of kings(Y) are among your honored women;
    at your right hand(Z) is the royal bride(AA) in gold of Ophir.(AB)

10 Listen, daughter,(AC) and pay careful attention:(AD)
    Forget your people(AE) and your father’s house.
11 Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;(AF)
    honor(AG) him, for he is your lord.(AH)
12 The city of Tyre(AI) will come with a gift,[d](AJ)
    people of wealth will seek your favor.
13 All glorious(AK) is the princess within her chamber;
    her gown is interwoven with gold.(AL)
14 In embroidered garments(AM) she is led to the king;(AN)
    her virgin companions(AO) follow her—
    those brought to be with her.
15 Led in with joy and gladness,(AP)
    they enter the palace of the king.

16 Your sons will take the place of your fathers;
    you will make them princes(AQ) throughout the land.

17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations;(AR)
    therefore the nations will praise you(AS) for ever and ever.(AT)

2 Mitt hjärta flödar över av sköna tankar,
    jag reciterar en sång till kungen.
    Min tunga är som en skicklig skrivares penna.

3 Du är den skönaste av människor.
    Dina läppar är smorda med ljuvlighet.
Därför ska Gud välsigna dig för evigt.

4 Bind svärdet vid din sida, du mäktige,
    i ditt majestät och din prakt.
5 Dra ut i triumf i din prakt,
    för sanningen, ödmjukheten och rättfärdigheten!
    Låt din starka hand lära ut stora gärningar![c]
6 Dina pilar är vassa,
    de träffar kungens fiender i hjärtat.
    Folken faller ner inför dina fötter.
7 Gud, din tron består i tid och evighet.
    Din kungaspira är rättens spira.
8 Du älskar rättfärdighet
    och hatar det onda.
Därför, Gud, har din Gud
    smort dig[d] med glädjens olja,
    mer än dina medbröder.
9 Dina kläder doftar av myrra, aloe och kassia.
    I dina elfenbenspalats gläds du åt strängmusik.
10 Kungadöttrar finns bland dina ärade kvinnor,
    på din högra sida står drottningen i guld från Ofir.

11 Hör nu, min dotter, lyssna!
    Glöm ditt folk och din släkt.
12 Kungen gläder sig åt din skönhet.
    Visa respekt för honom, för han är din herre.
13 Dottern av Tyros[e] kommer till dig med gåvor,
    de rika i folket vädjar till din välvilja[f].
14 Kungens dotter står där i sin härlighet,
    klädd i bländande kläder som är vävda av guld.
15 I färggrant vävda kläder förs hon fram till kungen,
    med sina bröllopstärnor i släptåg, fram till dig.
16 Under glädje och jubel förs de fram
    i procession in i kungapalatset.

17 Dina söner kommer att ta dina förfäders plats,
    och du ska göra dem till härskare över hela jorden.

18 Jag ska låta ditt rykte gå från generation till generation.
    Folken ska prisa dig för all framtid, i all evighet.

1 My heart is moved by a noble theme
as I recite my verses to the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.(B)
2 You are the most handsome of men;[a]
grace flows from your lips.(C)
Therefore God has blessed you forever.(D)

3 Mighty warrior, strap your sword at your side.
In your majesty and splendor(E)—
4 in your splendor ride triumphantly
in the cause of truth, humility, and justice.
May your right hand show your awe-inspiring acts.(F)
5 Your sharpened arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies;
the peoples fall under you.(G)

6 Your throne,(H) God, is[b] forever and ever;
the scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.(I)
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;(J)
therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy
more than your companions.
8 Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume all your garments;
from ivory palaces harps bring you joy.(K)
9 Kings’ daughters are among your honored women;(L)
the queen, adorned with gold from Ophir,
stands at your right hand.(M)

10 Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider:
Forget your people and your father’s house,(N)
11 and the king will desire your beauty.
Bow down to him, for he is your lord.(O)
12 The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people,
will seek your favor with gifts.(P)

13 In her chamber, the royal daughter is all glorious,
her clothing embroidered with gold.(Q)
14 In colorful garments she is led to the king;
after her, the virgins, her companions, are brought to you.(R)
15 They are led in with gladness and rejoicing;
they enter the king’s palace.(S)

16 Your sons will succeed your ancestors;
you will make them princes throughout the land.(T)
17 I will cause your name to be remembered for all generations;
therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.(U)
