Psalm 44
International Children’s Bible
A Prayer for Help
For the director of music. A maskil of the sons of Korah.
44 God, we have heard about you.
Our ancestors told us
what you did in their days,
in days long ago.
2 With your power you forced the nations out of the land.
You placed our ancestors here.
You destroyed those other nations.
But you made our ancestors grow strong.
3 It wasn’t their swords that took the land.
It wasn’t their power that gave them victory.
But it was your great power and strength.
You were with them because you loved them.
4 My God, you are my King.
Your commands led Jacob’s people to victory.
5 With your help we pushed back our enemies.
In your name we walked on those who came against us.
6 I don’t trust my bow to help me.
My sword can’t save me.
7 You saved us from Egypt.
You made our enemies ashamed.
8 We will praise God every day.
We will praise your name forever. Selah
9 But you have rejected us and shamed us.
You don’t march with our armies anymore.
10 You let our enemies push us back.
Our enemies have taken our wealth.
11 You gave us away like sheep to be eaten.
You scattered us among the nations.
12 You sold your people for nothing.
You made no profit on the sale.
13 You made us a joke to our neighbors.
The community laughs and makes fun of us.
14 You made us a joke to the other nations.
People shake their heads.
15 I am always in disgrace.
I am covered with shame.
16 My enemy is getting even
with insults and curses.
17 All these things have happened to us,
but we have not forgotten you.
We have kept our agreement with you.
18 Our hearts haven’t turned away from you.
We haven’t stopped following you.
19 But you crushed us in this place where wild dogs live.
You covered us with deep darkness.
20 We did not forget our God.
We did not lift our hands in prayer to foreign gods.
21 God would have known if we had.
He knows what is in our hearts.
22 But for you we are in danger of death all the time.
People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed.
23 Wake up, Lord! Why are you sleeping?
Get up! Don’t reject us forever.
24 Why are you hidden from us?
Have you forgotten our pain and troubles?
25 We have been pushed down into the dirt.
We are flat on the ground.
26 Get up and help us.
Because of your love, save us.
Salmos 44
La Palabra (España)
Salmo 44 (43)
¿Por qué ocultas tu rostro?
44 Al maestro del coro. De los hijos de Coré. Poema.
2 Lo hemos escuchado con nuestros oídos, oh Dios;
nuestros padres nos han contado
lo que tú hiciste en sus días,
en los días del pasado.
3 Expulsaste naciones para asentarlos a ellos,
oprimiste a pueblos para que ellos crecieran.
4 No conquistaron la tierra con la espada
ni fue su brazo quien les dio la victoria;
fue tu diestra y tu brazo,
fue la luz de tu rostro
porque tú los amabas.
5 Tú, Dios, eres mi rey,
tú decides la victoria de Jacob.
6 Contigo atacamos a nuestros rivales,
por tu nombre humillamos al adversario.
7 Pues no confié yo en mi arco
ni mi espada me dio la victoria.
8 Tú nos salvaste de nuestros rivales,
tú hiciste fracasar a nuestros enemigos.
9 A Dios alabamos en todo momento,
tu nombre ensalzamos por siempre. [ Pausa]
10 Pero tú nos has rechazado y humillado,
ya no marchas con nuestras tropas.
11 Nos haces retroceder ante el rival,
los enemigos nos han saqueado.
12 Nos entregas como oveja al matadero,
nos has dispersado entre las naciones.
13 Vendes tu pueblo por nada,
no le has puesto un alto precio;
14 nos haces la burla de los vecinos,
la risa y la mofa de quienes nos rodean;
15 nos haces la irrisión de las naciones
y los pueblos mueven burlones la cabeza.
16 Estoy siempre abochornado
y la vergüenza cubre mi rostro
17 a causa del grito insultante y ofensivo
del enemigo, del que quiere vengarse.
18 Todo esto nos ha sucedido
y, aun así, no te hemos olvidado,
no hemos quebrantado tu alianza;
24 ¡Despierta! ¿Por qué sigues dormido?
¡Ponte, Señor, en acción!
No nos rechaces para siempre.
25 ¿Por qué ocultas tu rostro
y olvidas nuestra opresión y miseria?
26 Estamos postrados en el polvo,
con el vientre adherido a la tierra.
27 ¡Ponte en acción, danos tu ayuda
y que tu amor nos redima!
Psalm 44
New King James Version
Redemption Remembered in Present Dishonor
To the Chief Musician. A (A)Contemplation[a] of the sons of Korah.
44 We have heard with our ears, O God,
(B)Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days,
In days of old:
2 (C)You drove out the [b]nations with Your hand,
But them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
3 For (D)they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
(E)Because You favored them.
4 (F)You are my King, [c]O God;
[d]Command victories for Jacob.
5 Through You (G)we will push down our enemies;
Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.
6 For (H)I will not trust in my bow,
Nor shall my sword save me.
7 But You have saved us from our enemies,
And have put to shame those who hated us.
8 (I)In God we boast all day long,
And praise Your name forever. Selah
9 But (J)You have cast us off and put us to shame,
And You do not go out with our armies.
10 You make us (K)turn back from the enemy,
And those who hate us have taken [e]spoil for themselves.
11 (L)You have given us up like sheep intended for food,
And have (M)scattered us among the nations.
12 (N)You sell Your people for next to nothing,
And are not enriched by selling them.
13 (O)You make us a reproach to our neighbors,
A scorn and a derision to those all around us.
14 (P)You make us a byword among the nations,
(Q)A shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 My dishonor is continually before me,
And the shame of my face has covered me,
16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles,
(R)Because of the enemy and the avenger.
17 (S)All this has come upon us;
But we have not forgotten You,
Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
(T)Nor have our steps departed from Your way;
19 But You have severely broken us in (U)the place of jackals,
And covered us (V)with the shadow of death.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,
Or (W)stretched[f] out our hands to a foreign god,
21 (X)Would not God search this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 (Y)Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 (Z)Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord?
Arise! Do not cast us off forever.
24 (AA)Why do You hide Your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For (AB)our soul is bowed down to the [g]dust;
Our body clings to the ground.
26 Arise for our help,
And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.
