Psalm 44:18-23

New International Version

¹⁸ Our hearts had not turned^(A) back;
    our feet had not strayed from your path.
¹⁹ But you crushed^(B) us and made us a haunt for jackals;^(C)
    you covered us over with deep darkness.^(D)

²⁰ If we had forgotten^(E) the name of our God
    or spread out our hands to a foreign god,^(F)
21 would not God have discovered it,
    since he knows the secrets of the heart?^(G)
22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep^(H) to be slaughtered.^(I)

²³ Awake,^(J) Lord! Why do you sleep?^(K)
    Rouse yourself!^(L) Do not reject us forever.^(M)
