Psalm 44:17-26

New American Standard Bible

¹⁷ All this has come upon us, but we have ^(A)not forgotten You,
And we have not ^(B)dealt falsely with Your covenant.
¹⁸ Our heart has not ^(C)turned back,
And our steps ^(D)have not deviated from Your way,
¹⁹ Yet You have ^(E)crushed us in a place of ^(F)jackals
And covered us with ^[a](G)deep darkness.

²⁰ If we had ^(H)forgotten the name of our God
Or extended our ^[b]hands to ^(I)a strange god,
²¹ Would God not ^(J)find this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
²² But ^(K)for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are regarded as ^(L)sheep to be slaughtered.
^23 (M)Wake Yourself up, why ^(N)do You sleep, Lord?
Awake, ^(O)do not reject us forever.
²⁴ Why do You ^(P)hide Your face
And ^(Q)forget our affliction and oppression?
²⁵ For our ^(R)souls have sunk down into the dust;
Our bodies cling to the earth.
^26 (S)Rise up, be our help,
And ^(T)redeem us because of Your mercy.
