Lord my God, You have done many things—
Your wonderful works and Your plans for us;
none can compare with You.
If I were to report and speak of them,
they are more than can be told.(A)

You do not delight in sacrifice and offering;
You open my ears to listen.[a]
You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering.(B)
Then I said, “See, I have come;
it is written about me in the volume of the scroll.(C)
I delight to do Your will, my God;(D)
Your instruction lives within me.”[b](E)

I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;
see, I do not keep my mouth closed[c]
as You know, Lord.(F)
10 I did not hide Your righteousness in my heart;
I spoke about Your faithfulness and salvation;
I did not conceal Your constant love and truth
from the great assembly.(G)

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz: 11 “Ask for a sign(A) from the Lord your God—from the depths of Sheol to the heights of heaven.”

A Royal Wedding Song

For the choir director: according to “The Lilies.”[a] A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song.

My heart is moved by a noble theme
as I recite my verses to the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.(A)
You are the most handsome of men;
grace flows from your lips.(B)
Therefore God has blessed you forever.(C)

Mighty warrior, strap your sword at your side.
In your majesty and splendor(D)
in your splendor ride triumphantly
in the cause of truth, humility, and justice.
May your right hand show your awe-inspiring acts.(E)
Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies;
the peoples fall under you.(F)

Your throne,(G) God, is[b] forever and ever;
the scepter of Your[c] kingdom is a scepter of justice.(H)
You love righteousness and hate wickedness;(I)
therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy
more than your companions.
Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume all your garments;
from ivory palaces harps bring you joy.(J)
Kings’ daughters are among your honored women;(K)
the queen, adorned with gold from Ophir,
stands at your right hand.(L)

10 Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider:
forget your people and your father’s house,(M)
11 and the king will desire your beauty.
Bow down to him, for he is your lord.(N)
12 The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people,
will seek your favor with gifts.(O)

13 In her chamber, the royal daughter is all glorious,
her clothing embroidered with gold.(P)
14 In colorful garments she is led to the king;
after her, the virgins, her companions, are brought to you.(Q)
15 They are led in with gladness and rejoicing;
they enter the king’s palace.(R)

16 Your sons will succeed your ancestors;
you will make them princes throughout the land.(S)
17 I will cause your name to be remembered for all generations;
therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.(T)

For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Therefore, as He was coming into the world, He said:

You did not want sacrifice and offering,
but You prepared a body for Me.
You did not delight
in whole burnt offerings and sin offerings.
Then I said, “See—
it is written about Me
in the volume of the scroll—
I have come to do Your will, God!”(A)[a]

After He says above, You did not want or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings (which are offered according to the law(B)), He then says, See, I have come to do Your will.[b] He takes away the first to establish the second. 10 By this will of God, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.(C)

Gabriel Predicts Jesus’ Birth

26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel(A) was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,(B) 27 to a virgin engaged(C) to a man named Joseph, of the house of David.(D) The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came to her and said, “Rejoice, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”[a] 29 But she was deeply troubled(E) by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. 30 Then the angel told her:

Do not be afraid, Mary,(F)
for you have found favor with God.
31 Now listen:
You will conceive and give birth to a son,
and you will call His name Jesus.(G)
32 He will be great
and will be called the Son of the Most High,(H)
and the Lord God will give Him
the throne of His father David.(I)
33 He will reign over the house of Jacob(J) forever,
and His kingdom will have no end.(K)

34 Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not been intimate with a man?”[b]

35 The angel replied to her:

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,(L)
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore, the holy One to be born
will be called the Son of God.(M)

36 And consider your relative Elizabeth—even she has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called childless. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”(N)

38 “I am the Lord’s slave,”[c] said Mary. “May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.
