³⁶ While you have the Light, ^(A)believe in the Light, so that you may become ^(B)sons of Light.”

These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and ^(C)hid Himself from them.

⁸ for ^(A)you were once ^(B)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as ^(C)children of light ⁹ (for ^(D)the fruit of the light consists in all ^(E)goodness, righteousness, and truth), ^10 [a](F)as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. ^11 (G)Do not participate in the useless ^(H)deeds of ^(I)darkness, but instead even ^(J)expose them; ¹² for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. ¹³ But all things become visible ^(K)when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. ¹⁴ For this reason ^[b]it says,

⁵ for you are all ^(A)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of ^(B)darkness; ⁶ so then, let’s not ^(C)sleep as ^[a](D)others do, but let’s be alert and ^[b](E)sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, ^(F)get drunk at night. ⁸ But since ^(G)we are of the day, let’s ^(H)be ^[c]sober, having put on the ^(I)breastplate of ^(J)faith and love, and as a ^(K)helmet, the ^(L)hope of salvation. ⁹ For God has not destined us for ^(M)wrath, but for ^(N)obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ^10 (O)who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. ¹¹ Therefore, ^[d]encourage one another and ^(P)build one another up, just as you also are doing.
