38 O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

¡Ven en mi ayuda!

SALMO 38 (37)

Himno de David para cantarlo cuando se presentan las ofrendas de incienso.

38 Dios mío,
si estás enojado, no me reprendas;
si estás furioso, no me castigues.
Me has herido con tu enojo,
has descargado tu mano sobre mí.
Tan grande ha sido tu disgusto
que nada sano tengo en el cuerpo;
tan grande ha sido mi pecado
que no tengo paz en los huesos.
Ya no aguanto mi maldad;
¡no soporto carga tan pesada!

Tan necio he sido,
que hasta mis llagas apestan;
¡están llenas de pus!
Me siento cansado,
y totalmente deprimido;
todo el día ando muy triste.
Estoy ardiendo en fiebre;
nada en mi cuerpo está sano.
Estoy muy débil y adolorido;
tengo la mente aturdida.
¡Por eso me quejo!

Dios mío, pongo ante ti
mis más grandes deseos;
¡no te los puedo esconder!
10 Mi corazón late con ansias,
las fuerzas me abandonan,
la vista se me nubla.
11 Mis amigos más queridos
se quedan lejos de mí
por causa de mis males;
mis parientes cercanos
se mantienen a distancia.
12 Los que quieren matarme
me ponen trampas;
los que buscan mi mal
amenazan con destruirme,
¡no hay un solo momento
en que no hagan planes contra mí!

13-14 Pero yo cierro los oídos
y hago como que no los oigo;
me hago el mudo y no digo nada.
15 Mi Señor y Dios,
yo en ti confío;
tú serás quien les responda.
16 Sólo una cosa te pido:
si acaso llego a caer,
no les concedas el gusto
de burlarse de mí.

17 Casi me doy por vencido;
este dolor no me deja en paz.
18 Debo reconocer mi maldad;
me llena de angustia haber pecado.
19 Mis enemigos son poderosos,
son muchos y me odian sin razón.
20 Yo los traté bien,
y ahora ellos me tratan mal;
procuré su bienestar,
y ahora ellos me atacan.

21-22 Mi Señor y Dios,
¡tú eres mi salvador!
No me abandones;
no te alejes de mí,
¡ven pronto en mi ayuda!

A Psalm by David, for a memorial.

38 Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your wrath,
    neither chasten me in your hot displeasure.
For your arrows have pierced me,
    your hand presses hard on me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation,
    neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have gone over my head.
    As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
My wounds are loathsome and corrupt
    because of my foolishness.
I am in pain and bowed down greatly.
    I go mourning all day long.
For my waist is filled with burning.
    There is no soundness in my flesh.
I am faint and severely bruised.
    I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.
Lord, all my desire is before you.
    My groaning is not hidden from you.
10 My heart throbs.
    My strength fails me.
    As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me.
11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague.
    My kinsmen stand far away.
12 They also who seek after my life lay snares.
    Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things,
    and meditate deceits all day long.
13 But I, as a deaf man, don’t hear.
    I am as a mute man who doesn’t open his mouth.
14 Yes, I am as a man who doesn’t hear,
    in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For I hope in you, Yahweh.
    You will answer, Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Don’t let them gloat over me,
    or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips.”
17 For I am ready to fall.
    My pain is continually before me.
18 For I will declare my iniquity.
    I will be sorry for my sin.
19 But my enemies are vigorous and many.
    Those who hate me without reason are numerous.
20 They who render evil for good are also adversaries to me,
    because I follow what is good.
21 Don’t forsake me, Yahweh.
    My God, don’t be far from me.
22 Hurry to help me,
    Lord, my salvation.
