¹³ The Lord ^(A)looks from heaven;
He ^(B)sees all the sons of mankind;
¹⁴ From ^(C)His dwelling place He looks out
On all the inhabitants of the earth,
¹⁵ He who ^(D)fashions ^[a]the hearts of them all,
He who ^(E)understands all their works.
^16 (F)The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not rescued by great strength.
¹⁷ A ^(G)horse is a false hope for victory;
Nor does it rescue anyone by its great strength.

¹⁸ Behold, ^(H)the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who ^(I)wait for His faithfulness,
¹⁹ To ^(J)rescue their soul from death
And to keep them alive ^(K)in famine.
²⁰ Our soul ^(L)waits for the Lord;
He is our ^(M)help and our shield.

¹⁷ The righteous ^(A)cry out, and the Lord hears
And rescues them from all their troubles.
¹⁸ The Lord ^(B)is near to the ^(C)brokenhearted
And saves those who are ^[a](D)crushed in spirit.
