The Steadfast Love of the Lord

33 ^(A)Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    ^(B)Praise befits the upright.
²Give thanks to the Lord with the ^(C)lyre;
    make melody to him with ^(D)the harp of ^(E)ten strings!
³Sing to him ^(F)a new song;
    play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

⁴For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in ^(G)faithfulness.
⁵He ^(H)loves righteousness and justice;
^(I)the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

⁶By ^(J)the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and by ^(K)the breath of his mouth all ^(L)their host.
⁷He gathers the waters of the sea as ^(M)a heap;
he ^(N)puts the deeps in storehouses.

⁸Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
⁹For ^(O)he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.

¹⁰The Lord ^(P)brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
    he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
¹¹^(Q)The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
    the plans of his heart to all generations.
¹²^(R)Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people whom he has ^(S)chosen as his heritage!

¹³The Lord ^(T)looks down from heaven;
    he sees all the children of man;
¹⁴from ^(U)where he sits enthroned he ^(V)looks out
    on all the inhabitants of the earth,
¹⁵he who fashions the hearts of them all
    and observes all their deeds.
¹⁶^(W)The king is not saved by his great army;
    a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
¹⁷^(X)The war horse is a false hope for salvation,
    and by its great might it cannot rescue.

¹⁸Behold, ^(Y)the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
^(Z)on those who hope in his steadfast love,
¹⁹that he may ^(AA)deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in ^(AB)famine.

²⁰Our soul ^(AC)waits for the Lord;
    he is our ^(AD)help and ^(AE)our shield.
²¹For our heart is ^(AF)glad in him,
    because we ^(AG)trust in his holy name.
²²Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
    even as we hope in you.

Proverbs 12

12 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
    but he who ^(A)hates reproof is ^(B)stupid.
²A good man ^(C)obtains favor from the Lord,
    but a man of evil devices he condemns.
³No one is established by wickedness,
    but the root of ^(D)the righteous will never be moved.
⁴^(E)An excellent wife is ^(F)the crown of her husband,
    but she who ^(G)brings shame is like ^(H)rottenness in his bones.
⁵^(I)The thoughts of the righteous are just;
    the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
⁶The words of the wicked ^(J)lie in wait for blood,
    but ^(K)the mouth of the upright delivers them.
⁷^(L)The wicked are ^(M)overthrown and are no more,
    ^(N)but the house of the righteous will stand.
⁸A man is commended according to his good sense,
    but one of twisted mind is ^(O)despised.
⁹Better to be lowly and have a servant
    than to play the great man and lack bread.
¹⁰^(P)Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast,
    but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.
¹¹^(Q)Whoever works his land ^(R)will have plenty of bread,
    ^(S)but he who follows ^(T)worthless pursuits lacks sense.
¹²Whoever is wicked covets ^(U)the spoil of evildoers,
    but the root of the righteous bears fruit.
¹³An evil man is ensnared ^(V)by the transgression of his lips,^[a]
    ^(W)but the righteous escapes from trouble.
¹⁴From the fruit of his mouth ^(X)a man is satisfied with good,
    ^(Y)and the work of a man's hand comes back to him.
¹⁵^(Z)The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
    but a wise man listens to advice.
¹⁶^(AA)The vexation of a fool is known at once,
    but the prudent ignores an insult.
¹⁷^(AB)Whoever speaks^[b] the truth gives honest evidence,
    but ^(AC)a false witness utters deceit.
¹⁸^(AD)There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts,
    but the tongue of the wise brings ^(AE)healing.
¹⁹Truthful lips endure forever,
    but ^(AF)a lying tongue is but for a moment.
²⁰Deceit is in the heart of ^(AG)those who devise evil,
    but those who plan peace have joy.
²¹^(AH)No ill befalls the righteous,
    but the wicked are filled with trouble.
²²^(AI)Lying lips are ^(AJ)an abomination to the Lord,
    ^(AK)but those who act faithfully are his delight.
²³^(AL)A prudent man conceals knowledge,
    ^(AM)but the heart of fools proclaims folly.
²⁴^(AN)The hand of the diligent will rule,
    while the slothful will be ^(AO)put to forced labor.
²⁵^(AP)Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down,
    but a good word makes him glad.
²⁶One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor,^[c]
    but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
²⁷^(AQ)Whoever is slothful will not roast his game,
    but the diligent man will get precious wealth.^[d]
²⁸^(AR)In the path of righteousness is life,
    and in its pathway there is no death.

⁸See to it that no one takes you captive by ^(A)philosophy and ^(B)empty deceit, according to ^(C)human tradition, according to the ^(D)elemental spirits^[a] of the world, and not according to Christ. ⁹For ^(E)in him the whole fullness of deity dwells ^(F)bodily, ¹⁰and ^(G)you have been filled in him, who is ^(H)the head of all rule and authority. ¹¹In him also ^(I)you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by ^(J)putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, ¹²^(K)having been buried with him in baptism, in which ^(L)you were also raised with him through faith in ^(M)the powerful working of God, ^(N)who raised him from the dead. ¹³^(O)And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God ^(P)made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, ¹⁴by ^(Q)canceling ^(R)the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. ¹⁵^(S)He disarmed the rulers and authorities^[b] and ^(T)put them to open shame, by ^(U)triumphing over them in him.^[c]

Let No One Disqualify You

¹⁶Therefore let no one ^(V)pass judgment on you ^(W)in questions of food and drink, or with regard to ^(X)a festival or ^(Y)a new moon or a Sabbath. ¹⁷^(Z)These are a shadow of the things to come, but ^(AA)the substance belongs to Christ. ¹⁸Let no one ^(AB)disqualify you, ^(AC)insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, ^(AD)going on in detail about visions,^[d] ^(AE)puffed up without reason by ^(AF)his sensuous mind, ¹⁹and ^(AG)not ^(AH)holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
