The Joy of Forgiveness

32 How joyful is the one
whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered!(A)
2 How joyful is a person whom
the Lord does not charge with iniquity(B)
and in whose spirit is no deceit!(C)
3 When I kept silent, my bones became brittle
from my groaning all day long.(D)
4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me;(E)
my strength was drained[a]
as in the summer’s heat.(F) Selah
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you(G)
and did not conceal my iniquity.
I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.(H) Selah
6 Therefore let everyone who is faithful pray to you immediately.[b](I)
When great floodwaters come,
they will not reach him.(J)
7 You are my hiding place;(K)
you protect me from trouble.(L)
You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance. Selah
8 I will instruct you and show you the way to go;(M)
with my eye on you, I will give counsel.(N)
9 Do not be like a horse or mule,
without understanding,
that must be controlled with bit and bridle
or else it will not come near you.(O)
10 Many pains come to the wicked,(P)
but the one who trusts in the Lord
will have faithful love surrounding him.(Q)
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
you righteous ones;
shout for joy,
all you upright in heart.(R)

1 Blessed is the one
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.(A)
2 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord does not count against them(B)
and in whose spirit is no deceit.(C)
3 When I kept silent,(D)
my bones wasted away(E)
through my groaning(F) all day long.
4 For day and night
your hand was heavy(G) on me;
my strength was sapped(H)
as in the heat of summer.[b]
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.(I)
I said, “I will confess(J)
my transgressions(K) to the Lord.”
And you forgave
the guilt of my sin.(L)
6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
while you may be found;(M)
surely the rising(N) of the mighty waters(O)
will not reach them.(P)
7 You are my hiding place;(Q)
you will protect me from trouble(R)
and surround me with songs of deliverance.(S)
8 I will instruct(T) you and teach you(U) in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on(V) you.
9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle(W)
or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,(X)
but the Lord’s unfailing love
surrounds the one who trusts(Y) in him.
11 Rejoice in the Lord(Z) and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

32 (A) En vishetspsalm[a] av David.
Salig är den som fått
sitt brott förlåtet,
sin synd övertäckt!
2 Salig är den som Herren inte
tillräknar synd
och som i sin ande är utan svek.
3 (B) Så länge jag teg
förtvinade mina ben
och jag stönade dagen lång.
4 (C) Dag och natt var din hand
tung över mig,
min kraft rann bort
som i sommarens torka.[b] Sela
5 (D) Då erkände jag min synd för dig
och dolde inte min skuld.
Jag sade: "Jag vill bekänna
mina brott för Herren" –
då förlät du mig min syndaskuld.
Sela
6 (E) Därför ska alla trogna be till dig
medan du går att finna.
Om väldiga vattenfloder kommer
ska de inte nå dem.
7 (F) Du är mitt beskydd,
du bevarar mig från nöd,
du omger mig
med frälsningens jubel. Sela
8 (G) Jag vill lära dig och undervisa dig
om den väg du ska vandra,
jag vill ge dig råd
och låta mitt öga vaka över dig.
9 (H) Var inte som en häst eller mula
som saknar förstånd,
som måste tämjas
med töm och betsel
om de ska komma till dig.
