Psalm 31
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
Psalm 31
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
1 In You, O Lord, do I put my trust and seek refuge; let me never be put to shame or [have my hope in You] disappointed; deliver me in Your righteousness!
2 Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save me!
3 Yes, You are my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for Your name’s sake lead me and guide me.
4 Draw me out of the net that they have laid secretly for me, for You are my Strength and my Stronghold.
5 Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth and faithfulness.(A)
6 [You and] I abhor those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in, rely on, and confidently lean on the Lord.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy and steadfast love, because You have seen my affliction, You have taken note of my life’s distresses,
8 And You have not given me into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.
9 Have mercy and be gracious unto me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; with grief my eye is weakened, also my inner self and my body.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and even my bones have wasted away.
11 To all my enemies I have become a reproach, but especially to my neighbors, and a dread to my acquaintances, who flee from me on the street.
12 I am forgotten like a dead man, and out of mind; like a broken vessel am I.
13 For I have heard the slander of many; terror is on every side! While they schemed together against me, they plotted to take my life.
14 But I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God.
15 My times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my foes and those who pursue me and persecute me.
16 Let Your face shine on Your servant; save me for Your mercy’s sake and in Your loving-kindness.
17 Let me not be put to shame, O Lord, or disappointed, for I am calling upon You; let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the place of the dead).
18 Let the lying lips be silenced, which speak insolently against the [consistently] righteous with pride and contempt.
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men!
20 In the secret place of Your presence You hide them from the plots of men; You keep them secretly in Your pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord! For He has shown me His marvelous loving favor when I was beset as in a besieged city.
22 As for me, I said in my haste and alarm, I am cut off from before Your eyes. But You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to You for aid.
23 O love the Lord, all you His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully pays back him who deals haughtily.
24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!
Psalm 31
New King James Version
The Lord a Fortress in Adversity
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
31 In (A)You, O Lord, I [a]put my trust;
Let me never be ashamed;
Deliver me in Your righteousness.
2 (B)Bow down Your ear to me,
Deliver me speedily;
Be my rock of [b]refuge,
A [c]fortress of defense to save me.
3 (C)For You are my rock and my fortress;
Therefore, (D)for Your name’s sake,
Lead me and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
5 (E)Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O Lord God of (F)truth.
6 I have hated those (G)who regard useless idols;
But I trust in the Lord.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy,
For You have considered my trouble;
You have (H)known my soul in [d]adversities,
8 And have not (I)shut[e] me up into the hand of the enemy;
(J)You have set my feet in a wide place.
9 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble;
(K)My eye wastes away with grief,
Yes, my soul and my [f]body!
10 For my life is spent with grief,
And my years with sighing;
My strength fails because of my iniquity,
And my bones waste away.
11 (L)I am a [g]reproach among all my enemies,
But (M)especially among my neighbors,
And am repulsive to my acquaintances;
(N)Those who see me outside flee from me.
12 (O)I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind;
I am like a [h]broken vessel.
13 (P)For I hear the slander of many;
(Q)Fear is on every side;
While they (R)take counsel together against me,
They scheme to take away my life.
14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in Your (S)hand;
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,
And from those who persecute me.
16 (T)Make Your face shine upon Your servant;
Save me for Your mercies’ sake.
17 (U)Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord, for I have called upon You;
Let the wicked be ashamed;
(V)Let them be silent in the grave.
18 (W)Let the lying lips be put to silence,
Which (X)speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 (Y)Oh, how great is Your goodness,
Which You have laid up for those who fear You,
Which You have prepared for those who trust in You
In the presence of the sons of men!
20 (Z)You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence
From the plots of man;
(AA)You shall keep them secretly in a [i]pavilion
From the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord,
For (AB)He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a [j]strong city!
22 For I said in my haste,
“I am cut off from before Your eyes”;
Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications
When I cried out to You.
23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints!
For the Lord preserves the faithful,
And fully repays the proud person.
24 (AC)Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the Lord.

Räddning undan förföljare
31 För körledaren. En psalm av David.
2 (A) Till dig, Herre, tar jag min tillflykt.
Låt mig aldrig behöva skämmas,
rädda mig i din rättfärdighet.
6 (E) I din hand[a] överlämnar jag
min ande.
Du har friköpt mig, Herre,
du trofaste Gud.
7 (F) Jag hatar[b] dem som håller fast
vid tomma avgudar,
jag litar på Herren.
8 (G) Jag vill jubla och glädjas
över din nåd,
att du ser mitt lidande
och känner min själ i nöden.
9 (H) Du utlämnar mig inte
i fiendens hand,
du ställer mina fötter
på rymlig plats.
10 (I) Förbarma dig över mig, Herre,
jag är i nöd!
Grämelse förtär mitt öga,
min själ och min kropp.
11 (J) Mitt liv försvinner i sorg,
mina år i suckan.
Min kraft är bruten
genom min synd[c],
mina ben[d] förtärs
12 (K) för alla mina fienders skull.
Jag har blivit en skam
för mina grannar
och en skräck
för dem som känner mig.
De som ser mig på gatan
flyr för mig.
13 Jag är glömd och borta
ur deras hjärtan, som död,
jag har blivit som ett krossat kärl.
14 (L) Jag hör vad många viskar,
skräck från alla håll!
De gaddar ihop sig mot mig,
smider planer för att ta mitt liv.
15 Men jag litar på dig, Herre,
jag säger: "Du är min Gud."
16 (M) Min tid är i dina händer.
Rädda mig från mina fienders hand,
från dem som förföljer mig.
17 (N) Låt ditt ansikte lysa
över din tjänare,
fräls mig genom din nåd.
18 (O) Herre, låt mig inte
behöva skämmas,
jag ropar till dig!
Låt de gudlösa få skämmas,
låt dem tystna i dödsriket.
19 Låt lögnarnas läppar förstummas,
de som talar fräckhet i högmod
och förakt mot den rättfärdige.
20 (P) Hur stor är inte din godhet,
som du sparar åt dem
som vördar dig
och visar i människors åsyn
mot dem som flyr till dig!
21 (Q) Du tar dem i ditt ansiktes beskydd
mot människors intriger,
du gömmer dem i din hydda
undan elaka tungor.
22 (R) Lovad är Herren!
Han har visat mig
sin underbara nåd
i en belägrad[e] stad.
23 (S) Jag sade i min ångest:
"Jag är avskuren från dina ögon!"
Men du hörde min bön om nåd
när jag ropade till dig.
24 (T) Älska Herren,
alla ni hans trogna!
Herren bevarar de trofasta,
men den som handlar i högmod
straffar han strängt.
25 (U) Var starka och modiga i era hjärtan,
alla ni som hoppas på Herren!
