Teach Me Your Paths

^[a] Of David.

25 To you, O Lord, I ^(A)lift up my soul.
²O my God, in you I ^(B)trust;
    ^(C)let me not be put to shame;
    ^(D)let not my enemies exult over me.
³Indeed, ^(E)none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
    they shall be ashamed who are ^(F)wantonly ^(G)treacherous.

⁴^(H)Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
⁵Lead me in your ^(I)truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.

⁶Remember your ^(J)mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    ^(K)for they have been from of old.
⁷Remember not ^(L)the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your ^(M)steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

⁸^(N)Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he ^(O)instructs sinners in the way.
⁹He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
¹⁰All the paths of the Lord are ^(P)steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

¹¹For your ^(Q)name's sake, O Lord,
    pardon my guilt, for it is ^(R)great.
¹²Who is the man who fears the Lord?
    Him ^(S)will he instruct in the way that he should choose.
¹³His soul shall ^(T)abide in well-being,
    and his ^(U)offspring ^(V)shall inherit the land.
¹⁴^(W)The friendship^[b] of the Lord is for those who fear him,
    and he makes known to them his covenant.
¹⁵My ^(X)eyes are ever toward the Lord,
    for he will ^(Y)pluck my feet out of the net.

¹⁶^(Z)Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    for I am lonely and afflicted.
¹⁷The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
    bring me out of my distresses.
¹⁸^(AA)Consider my affliction and my trouble,
    and forgive all my sins.

¹⁹Consider how many are my foes,
    and with what violent hatred they hate me.
²⁰Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me!
    ^(AB)Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
²¹May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
    for I wait for you.

²²^(AC)Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all his troubles.

⁶Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel

    besides me there is no god.
⁷^(C)Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.^[a]
    Let him declare and set it before me,
since I appointed an ancient people.
    Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
⁸Fear not, nor be afraid;
    have I not told you from of old and declared it?
    ^(D)And you are my witnesses!
^(E)Is there a God besides me?
    There is no ^(F)Rock; I know not any.”

The Lord Redeems Israel

²¹Remember these things, O Jacob,
    and Israel, for you are ^(A)my servant;
I formed you; you are my servant;
    ^(B)O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
²²^(C)I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud
    and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.

²³^(D)Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it;
    shout, O ^(E)depths of the earth;
break forth into singing, O mountains,
    O forest, and every tree in it!
For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
    ^(F)and will be glorified^[a] in Israel.

Unity in the Body of Christ

4 I therefore, ^(A)a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to ^(B)walk in a manner worthy of ^(C)the calling to which you have been called, ²with all ^(D)humility and ^(E)gentleness, with ^(F)patience, ^(G)bearing with one another in love, ³eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in ^(H)the bond of peace. ⁴There is ^(I)one body and ^(J)one Spirit—just as you were called to the one ^(K)hope that belongs to your call— ⁵^(L)one Lord, ^(M)one faith, ^(N)one baptism, ⁶^(O)one God and Father of all, ^(P)who is over all and through all and in all. ⁷But ^(Q)grace was given ^(R)to each one of us ^(S)according to the measure of Christ's gift. ⁸Therefore it says,

⁹(^(V)In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into ^(W)the lower regions, the earth?^[b] ¹⁰He who descended is the one who also ^(X)ascended ^(Y)far above all the heavens, that he might ^(Z)fill all things.) ¹¹And ^(AA)he gave the ^(AB)apostles, the prophets, the ^(AC)evangelists, the ^(AD)shepherds^[c] and teachers,^[d] ¹²^(AE)to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for ^(AF)building up ^(AG)the body of Christ, ¹³until we all attain to ^(AH)the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, ^(AI)to mature manhood,^[e] to the measure of the stature of ^(AJ)the fullness of Christ, ¹⁴so that we may no longer be children, ^(AK)tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in ^(AL)deceitful schemes. ¹⁵Rather, ^(AM)speaking the truth in love, we are to ^(AN)grow up in every way into him who is ^(AO)the head, into Christ, ¹⁶^(AP)from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, ^(AQ)when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

A Great Crowd Follows Jesus

⁷^(A)Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and ^(B)a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea ⁸and Jerusalem and ^(C)Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around ^(D)Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. ⁹And he told his disciples to ^(E)have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they ^(F)crush him, ¹⁰for ^(G)he had healed many, so that all who had ^(H)diseases pressed around him ^(I)to touch him. ¹¹^(J)And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they ^(K)fell down before him and cried out, “You are ^(L)the Son of God.” ¹²And ^(M)he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

The Twelve Apostles

¹³^(N)And he went up on the mountain and called to him those ^(O)whom he desired, and they came to him. ¹⁴^(P)And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach ¹⁵^(Q)and have authority to cast out demons. ¹⁶He appointed the twelve: ^(R)Simon (to whom ^(S)he gave the name Peter); ¹⁷^(T)James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); ¹⁸Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and ^(U)Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,^[a] ¹⁹and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
