The King of Glory

A Psalm of David.

24 (A)The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,[a]
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has (B)founded it upon (C)the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

(D)Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his (E)holy place?
(F)He who has (G)clean hands and (H)a pure heart,
who does not (I)lift up his soul to (J)what is false
    and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive (K)blessing from the Lord
and (L)righteousness from (M)the God of his salvation.
Such is (N)the generation of those who seek him,
who (O)seek the face of the God of Jacob.[b] Selah

(P)Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that (Q)the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty,
    the Lord, (R)mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
    (S)The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory! Selah

The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one (A)of the priests who were in (B)Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of (C)Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in (D)the thirteenth year of his reign. It came also in the days of (E)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, and (F)until the end of the eleventh year of (G)Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, (H)until the captivity of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

The Call of Jeremiah

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

(I)“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born (J)I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet (K)to the nations.”

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, (L)I do not know how to speak, (M)for I am only a youth.” But the Lord said to me,

“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you, you shall go,
and (N)whatever I command you, you shall speak.
(O)Do not be afraid of them,
(P)for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the Lord.”

(Q)Then the Lord put out his hand and (R)touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,

“Behold, I have put (S)my words in your mouth.
10 See, I have set you this day (T)over nations and over kingdoms,
(U)to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”

11 For no one can lay a (A)foundation other (B)than that which is laid, (C)which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 (D)each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed (E)by fire, and (F)the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, (G)he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, (H)but only as through fire.

16 (I)Do you not know that you[a] are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For (J)God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

18 (K)Let no one deceive himself. (L)If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For (M)the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, (N)“He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20 and again, (O)“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 So (P)let no one boast in men. For (Q)all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23 and (R)you are Christ's, and (S)Christ is God's.

Jesus' Mother and Brothers

31 (A)And his mother and his (B)brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers[a] are outside, seeking you.” 33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And (C)looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 (D)For whoever (E)does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

The Parable of the Sower

Again (F)he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, (G)so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. And (H)he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! Behold, (I)a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. And (J)when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, (K)it withered away. Other seed fell among (L)thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and (M)a hundredfold.” And he said, (N)“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
