The Triumphal Entry

²⁸ And when he had said these things, ^(A)he went on ahead, ^(B)going up to Jerusalem. ^29 (C)When he drew near to Bethphage and ^(D)Bethany, at ^(E)the mount that is called Olivet, he sent ^(F)two of the disciples, ³⁰ saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, ^(G)on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. ³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” ³² So those who were sent went away and found it ^(H)just as he had told them. ³³ And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” ³⁴ And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” ³⁵ And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. ³⁶ And as he rode along, they ^(I)spread their cloaks on the road. ³⁷ As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—^(J)the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ^(K)for all the mighty works that they had seen, ³⁸ saying, ^(L)“Blessed is ^(M)the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and ^(N)glory in the highest!” ^39 (O)And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” ⁴⁰ He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, ^(P)the very stones would cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

^41 (Q)And when he drew near and saw the city, ^(R)he wept over it, ⁴² saying, ^(S)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now ^(T)they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For ^(U)the days will come upon you, when your enemies ^(V)will set up a barricade around you and ^(W)surround you and hem you in on every side ^44 (X)and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And ^(Y)they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know ^(Z)the time of your ^(AA)visitation.”

The Coming King of Zion

⁷ “And the Lord will give salvation to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not surpass that of Judah. ^8 (A)On that day ^(B)the Lord will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that ^(C)the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, ^(D)like the angel of the Lord, going before them. ^9 (E)And on that day ^(F)I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Him Whom They Have Pierced

¹⁰ “And ^(G)I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and ^(H)pleas for mercy, so that, ^(I)when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, ^(J)they shall mourn for him, ^(K)as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. ^11 (L)On that day ^(M)the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great ^(N)as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. ¹² The land shall mourn, ^(O)each family^[a] by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of ^(P)Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; ¹³ the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of ^(Q)the Shimeites by itself, and their wives by themselves; ¹⁴ and all the families that are left, each by itself, and their wives by themselves.

13 ^(R)“On that day there shall be ^(S)a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.
