To the Chief Musician. Set to [a]“The Deer of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David.
22 My (A)God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
Why are You so far from helping Me,
And from the words of My groaning?
2 O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear;
And in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But You are holy,
Enthroned in the (B)praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in You;
They trusted, and You delivered them.
5 They cried to You, and were delivered;
(C)They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.
6 But I am (D)a worm, and no man;
(E)A reproach of men, and despised by the people.
7 (F)All those who see Me ridicule Me;
They [b]shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8 “He(G) [c]trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him;
(H)Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”
9 (I)But You are He who took Me out of the womb;
You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts.
10 I was cast upon You from birth.
From My mother’s womb
(J)You have been My God.
11 Be not far from Me,
For trouble is near;
For there is none to help.
12 (K)Many bulls have surrounded Me;
Strong bulls of (L)Bashan have encircled Me.
13 (M)They [d]gape at Me with their mouths,
Like a raging and roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water,
(N)And all My bones are out of joint;
My heart is like wax;
It has melted [e]within Me.
15 (O)My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And (P)My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
(Q)They[f] pierced My hands and My feet;
17 I can count all My bones.
(R)They look and stare at Me.
18 (S)They divide My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.
19 But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me;
O My Strength, hasten to help Me!
20 Deliver Me from the sword,
(T)My[g] precious life from the power of the dog.
21 (U)Save Me from the lion’s mouth
And from the horns of the wild oxen!
(V)You have answered Me.
22 (W)I will declare Your name to (X)My brethren;
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
23 (Y)You who fear the Lord, praise Him!
All you [h]descendants of Jacob, glorify Him,
And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Nor has He hidden His face from Him;
But (Z)when He cried to Him, He heard.
25 (AA)My praise shall be of You in the great assembly;
(AB)I will pay My vows before those who fear Him.
26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.
Let your heart live forever!
27 All the ends of the world
Shall remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the families of the [i]nations
Shall worship before [j]You.
28 (AC)For the kingdom is the Lord’s,
And He rules over the nations.
29 (AD)All the prosperous of the earth
Shall eat and worship;
(AE)All those who go down to [k]the dust
Shall bow before Him,
Even he who cannot keep himself alive.
30 A posterity shall serve Him.
It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation,
31 They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born,
That He has done this.

22 För körledaren, efter ”Morgonrodnadens hind”[b]. En psalm av David.
2 Min Gud, min Gud, varför har du övergett mig?
Min räddning förblir långt borta,
hur förtvivlat jag än ropar.
3 Min Gud, jag ropar på dagen, men du svarar inte,
på natten, men jag får ingen ro,
4 och ändå är du den Helige,
till vars tron Israels lovsång stiger.
5 Våra fäder satte sin tillit till dig,
de förtröstade på dig,
och du befriade dem.
6 De ropade till dig och blev räddade.
De förtröstade på dig och blev aldrig besvikna.
7 Men jag är en mask och inte en människa,
hånad av människor
och föraktad av folket.
8 Alla som ser mig hånar mig,
de hånskrattar åt mig
och skakar på huvudet.
9 ”Han förlitar ju sig på Herren,
låt nu Herren gripa in och befria honom,
eftersom han älskar honom!”
10 Herre, du hjälpte mig ut ur min mors liv,
du lät mig vila tryggt vid min mors bröst.
11 Alltsedan min födelse är jag överlämnad åt dig,
sedan jag föddes har du varit min Gud.
12 Var inte långt borta från mig
när jag är i nöd
och ingen finns som hjälper.
13 Tjurar i mängd omger mig,
Bashans tjurar omringar mig.
14 De kommer mot mig med öppna gap
som rovlystna, rytande lejon.
15 Jag hälls ut som vatten,
och alla mina ben är ur led.
Mitt hjärta är som vax,
det smälter i mitt inre.
16 Min styrka har torkat ihop som en lerskärva.
Min tunga klibbar fast i gommen,
och du lägger mig i dödens stoft.
17 Hundar omger mig,
en hop onda män omringar mig.
De har genomborrat[c] mina händer och fötter,
18 och jag kan räkna varje ben i min kropp.
De ser och stirrar på mig.
19 De delar mina kläder mellan sig,
och kastar lott om min klädnad.
20 Herre, var inte så långt borta,
du, min styrka, skynda dig och hjälp mig!
21 Rädda mig från svärdet,
mitt dyrbara liv från hundarnas våld!
22 Rädda mig från lejonens gap
och från vildoxarnas horn.
Du svarar mig.[d]
23 Jag ska göra ditt namn känt för mina bröder.
Jag ska prisa dig mitt i församlingen.
24 Ni som fruktar Herren, prisa honom,
ära honom, ni ättlingar till Jakob!
Bäva för honom, Israels ätt!
25 Han har inte föraktat eller försmått den lidandes elände,
han har inte dolt sitt ansikte för honom,
utan hört hans rop om hjälp.
26 Från dig kommer min lovsång
i den stora församlingen,
jag ska uppfylla mina löften
inför dem som fruktar dig.
27 De ödmjuka ska äta och bli mätta.
De som söker Herren ska prisa honom.
Må ni få livsmod för evigt!
28 Hela jorden ska minnas det och återvända till Herren,
alla folk och stammar ska tillbe honom.
29 Herren tillhör riket
och han regerar över folken.
30 Jordens alla rika ska tillbe honom,
böja knä inför honom,
alla de som sänks ner i stoftet,
de som inte kan hålla sig själva vid liv.[e]
31 De efterkommande ska också tjäna honom,
och de ska få höra om Herren.
32 De ska komma och förkunna hans rättfärdighet
för folk som ännu inte är födda,
för detta har han gjort.

- 22:1 Kan ha varit en känd sång på psalmistens tid, men termen kan också utifrån Septuaginta tolkas som hjälp som kommer vid gryningen, en tanke som förekommer även på andra håll i Psaltaren (se t.ex. 46:6).
- 22:17 Det hebreiska ordets betydelse är osäker, och en mer ordagrann översättning skulle vara som ett lejon, och enligt andra handskrifter (både hebreiska och Septuaginta-handskrifter) de grävde. Det har traditionellt tolkats som ett verb som syftar på genomborrandet av Jesus händer och fötter. Versen citeras dock inte i Nya testamentet.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?(A)
Why are you so far(B) from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?(C)
2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,(D)
by night,(E) but I find no rest.[b]
3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;(F)
you are the one Israel praises.[c](G)
4 In you our ancestors put their trust;
they trusted and you delivered them.(H)
5 To you they cried out(I) and were saved;
in you they trusted(J) and were not put to shame.(K)
6 But I am a worm(L) and not a man,
scorned by everyone,(M) despised(N) by the people.
7 All who see me mock me;(O)
they hurl insults,(P) shaking their heads.(Q)
8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
“let the Lord rescue him.(R)
Let him deliver him,(S)
since he delights(T) in him.”
9 Yet you brought me out of the womb;(U)
you made me trust(V) in you, even at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth(W) I was cast on you;
from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

Revere him,(BF) all you descendants of Israel!

the suffering of the afflicted one;(BH)
he has not hidden his face(BI) from him
but has listened to his cry for help.(BJ)
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;(BK)
before those who fear you[f] I will fulfill my vows.(BL)
26 The poor will eat(BM) and be satisfied;
those who seek the Lord will praise him—(BN)
may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth(BO)
will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,(BP)
28 for dominion belongs to the Lord(BQ)
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich(BR) of the earth will feast and worship;(BS)
all who go down to the dust(BT) will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.(BU)
30 Posterity(BV) will serve him;
future generations(BW) will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness,(BX)
declaring to a people yet unborn:(BY)
He has done it!(BZ)
