Psalm 22^[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of the Morning.” A psalm of David.

¹My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?^(A)
    Why are you so far^(B) from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?^(C)
²My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,^(D)
    by night,^(E) but I find no rest.^[b]

³Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;^(F)
you are the one Israel praises.^[c]^(G)

⁶But I am a worm^(A) and not a man,
    scorned by everyone,^(B) despised^(C) by the people.
⁷All who see me mock me;^(D)
    they hurl insults,^(E) shaking their heads.^(F)
⁸“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.^(G)
Let him deliver him,^(H)
    since he delights^(I) in him.”

Psalm 22:14-19

New International Version

¹⁴I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.^(A)
My heart has turned to wax;^(B)
    it has melted^(C) within me.
¹⁵My mouth^[a] is dried up like a potsherd,^(D)
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;^(E)
    you lay me in the dust^(F) of death.

¹⁶Dogs^(G) surround me,
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce^[b]^(H) my hands and my feet.
¹⁷All my bones are on display;
    people stare^(I) and gloat over me.^(J)
¹⁸They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots^(K) for my garment.^(L)

¹⁹But you, Lord, do not be far from me.^(M)
You are my strength;^(N) come quickly^(O) to help me.^(P)

Psalm 22:27-31

New International Version

²⁷All the ends of the earth^(A)
    will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
    will bow down before him,^(B)
²⁸for dominion belongs to the Lord^(C)
    and he rules over the nations.

²⁹All the rich^(D) of the earth will feast and worship;^(E)
    all who go down to the dust^(F) will kneel before him—
    those who cannot keep themselves alive.^(G)
³⁰Posterity^(H) will serve him;
    future generations^(I) will be told about the Lord.
³¹They will proclaim his righteousness,^(J)
    declaring to a people yet unborn:^(K)
    He has done it!^(L)
