Psalm 21-24
New American Standard Bible 1995
Praise for Deliverance.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
21 O Lord, in Your strength the king will (A)be glad,
And in Your [a]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2 You have (B)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [b]Selah.
3 For You (C)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (D)crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of You,
You (E)gave it to him,
(F)Length of days forever and ever.
5 His (G)glory is great through Your [c]salvation,
(H)Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
6 For You make him [d]most (I)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (J)with gladness in Your presence.
7 For the king (K)trusts in the Lord,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High (L)he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will (M)find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them (N)as a fiery oven in the time [e]of your anger;
The Lord will (O)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (P)fire will devour them.
10 Their [f]offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their [g](Q)descendants from among the sons of men.
11 Though they [h](R)intended evil against You
And (S)devised a plot,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (T)make them turn their back;
You will [i]aim (U)with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be exalted, O Lord, in Your strength;
We will (V)sing and praise Your power.
A Cry of Anguish and a Song of Praise.
For the choir director; upon [j]Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David.
22 (W)My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
[k](X)Far from my deliverance are the words of my [l](Y)groaning.
2 O my God, I (Z)cry by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but [m]I have no rest.
3 Yet (AA)You are holy,
O You who [n]are enthroned upon (AB)the praises of Israel.
4 In You our fathers (AC)trusted;
They trusted and You (AD)delivered them.
5 To You they cried out and were delivered;
(AE)In You they trusted and were not [o]disappointed.
6 But I am a (AF)worm and not a man,
A (AG)reproach of men and (AH)despised by the people.
7 All who see me [p](AI)sneer at me;
They [q]separate with the lip, they (AJ)wag the head, saying,
8 “[r]Commit yourself to the Lord; (AK)let Him deliver him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”
9 Yet You are He who (AL)brought me forth from the womb;
You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.
10 Upon You I was cast (AM)from [s]birth;
You have been my God from my mother’s womb.
11 (AN)Be not far from me, for [t]trouble is near;
For there is (AO)none to help.
12 Many (AP)bulls have surrounded me;
Strong bulls of (AQ)Bashan have encircled me.
13 They (AR)open wide their mouth at me,
As a ravening and a roaring (AS)lion.
14 I am (AT)poured out like water,
And all my (AU)bones are out of joint;
My (AV)heart is like wax;
It is melted within [u]me.
15 My (AW)strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And (AX)my tongue cleaves to my jaws;
And You (AY)lay me [v]in the dust of death.
16 For (AZ)dogs have surrounded me;
[w]A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
[x]They (BA)pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones.
(BB)They look, they stare at me;
18 They (BC)divide my garments among them,
And for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But You, O Lord, (BD)be not far off;
O You my help, (BE)hasten to my assistance.
20 Deliver my [y]soul from (BF)the sword,
My (BG)only life from the [z]power of the dog.
21 Save me from the (BH)lion’s mouth;
From the horns of the (BI)wild oxen You (BJ)answer me.
22 I will (BK)tell of Your name to my brethren;
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
23 (BL)You who fear the Lord, praise Him;
All you [aa]descendants of Jacob, (BM)glorify Him,
And (BN)stand in awe of Him, all you [ab]descendants of Israel.
24 For He has (BO)not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Nor has He (BP)hidden His face from him;
But (BQ)when he cried to Him for help, He heard.
25 From You comes (BR)my praise in the great assembly;
I shall (BS)pay my vows before those who fear Him.
26 The [ac]afflicted will eat and (BT)be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will (BU)praise the Lord.
Let your (BV)heart live forever!
27 All the (BW)ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the (BX)families of the nations will worship before [ad]You.
28 For the (BY)kingdom is the Lord’s
And He (BZ)rules over the nations.
29 All the [ae](CA)prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,
All those who (CB)go down to the dust will bow before Him,
Even he who [af](CC)cannot keep his soul alive.
30 [ag](CD)Posterity will serve Him;
It will be told of the Lord to (CE)the coming generation.
31 They will come and (CF)will declare His righteousness
To a people (CG)who will be born, that He has performed it.
The Lord, the Psalmist’s Shepherd.
A Psalm of David.
23 The Lord is my (CH)shepherd,
I [ah]shall (CI)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (CJ)green pastures;
He (CK)leads me beside [ai](CL)quiet waters.
3 He (CM)restores my soul;
He (CN)guides me in the [aj](CO)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (CP)walk through the [ak]valley of the shadow of death,
I (CQ)fear no [al]evil, for (CR)You are with me;
Your (CS)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (CT)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [am]have (CU)anointed my head with oil;
My (CV)cup overflows.
6 [an]Surely (CW)goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will [ao](CX)dwell in the house of the Lord [ap]forever.
The King of Glory Entering Zion.
A Psalm of David.
24 The (CY)earth is the Lord’s, and [aq]all it contains,
The (CZ)world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has (DA)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
3 Who may (DB)ascend into the (DC)hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy (DD)place?
4 He who has (DE)clean hands and a (DF)pure heart,
Who has not (DG)lifted up his soul [ar]to falsehood
And has not (DH)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive a (DI)blessing from the Lord
And [as](DJ)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 [at]This is the generation of those who (DK)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—even Jacob. [au]Selah.
7 (DL)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [av]ancient doors,
That the King of (DM)glory may come in!
8 Who is the King of glory?
The Lord (DN)strong and mighty,
The Lord (DO)mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift them up, O [aw]ancient doors,
That the King of (DP)glory may come in!
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of (DQ)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.
