Psalm 21[a]
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
2 You have granted him his heart’s desire(C)
and have not withheld the request of his lips.[b]
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold(D) on his head.(E)
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.(F)
5 Through the victories(G) you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(H)
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy(I) of your presence.(J)
7 For the king trusts in the Lord;(K)
through the unfailing love(L) of the Most High(M)
he will not be shaken.(N)
8 Your hand will lay hold(O) on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,
you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and his fire will consume them.(P)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.(Q)
11 Though they plot evil(R) against you
and devise wicked schemes,(S) they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs(T)
when you aim at them with drawn bow.

Herrens hjälp till kungen
21 För körledaren. En psalm av David.
2 (A) Herre, kungen gläds
över din makt,
hur högt jublar han inte
över din frälsning!
3 (B) Du ger honom
vad hans hjärta begär,
du nekar honom inte
vad hans läppar ber om. Sela
4 (C) Du möter honom
med rika välsignelser,
du sätter en krona av rent guld
på hans huvud.
5 (D) Han bad dig om liv
och du gav honom det,
långt liv i evigheters evighet.
6 Stor blir hans ära
genom din frälsning,
majestät och härlighet
skänker du honom.
7 (E) Du gör honom till välsignelse
för evigt,
du fyller honom med glädje
inför ditt ansikte,
8 (F) för kungen litar på Herren.
Genom den Högstes nåd
ska han inte vackla.
9 Din hand ska nå alla dina fiender,
din högra hand ska nå
dem som hatar dig.
10 (G) Du ska sätta dem
som i en glödande ugn
när du visar ditt ansikte.
Herren ska sluka dem i sin vrede,
eld ska förtära dem.
11 (H) Du ska utrota deras livsfrukt
från jorden,
deras avkomma
från människors barn,
12 för de ville dra ondska över dig,
de smidde listiga planer
men förmår ingenting.
13 (I) Du ska driva dem tillbaka,
du ska sikta med din båge
mot deras ansikten.
14 Res dig[a], Herre, i din makt!
Vi vill spela och sjunga
om din väldiga kraft.
