2 ¿Por qué se rebelan los pueblos?
¿Por qué conspiran las naciones?
2 Los reyes de la tierra hacen alianzas;
los caudillos se declaran en contra
del Señor y de su Mesías.(A) Y dicen:
3 «¡Vamos a quitarnos sus cadenas!
¡Vamos a librarnos de sus ataduras!»
4 El que reina en los cielos se ríe;
el Señor se burla de ellos.
5 Pero ya enfurecido, les habla,
y con su enojo los deja turbados.
6 «Ya he establecido a mi rey
sobre el monte Sión, mi lugar santo.»
7 Yo daré a conocer el decreto
que el Señor me ha comunicado:
«Tú eres mi hijo.
En este día te he engendrado.(B)
8 Pídeme que te dé las naciones como herencia,
y tuyos serán los confines de la tierra.
9 Someterás a las naciones con cetro de hierro,(C)
y las destrozarás como a vasijas de barro.»
10 Ustedes, los reyes: ¡sean prudentes!
Y ustedes, los jueces: ¡admitan la corrección!
11 Sirvan al Señor con reverencia
y ríndanle culto con temor reverente.
12 Ríndanse a los pies de su Hijo,
no sea que él se enoje y ustedes perezcan,
pues su enojo se enciende de repente.
¡Bienaventurados son los que en él confían!

1 Why do the nations conspire[a]
and the peoples plot(A) in vain?
2 The kings(B) of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed,(C) saying,
3 “Let us break their chains(D)
and throw off their shackles.”(E)
4 The One enthroned(F) in heaven laughs;(G)
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger(H)
and terrifies them in his wrath,(I) saying,
6 “I have installed my king(J)
on Zion,(K) my holy mountain.(L)”
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;(M)
today I have become your father.(N)
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations(O) your inheritance,(P)
the ends of the earth(Q) your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron[b];(R)
you will dash them to pieces(S) like pottery.(T)”
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;(U)
be warned, you rulers(V) of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear(W)
and celebrate his rule(X) with trembling.(Y)
12 Kiss his son,(Z) or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath(AA) can flare up in a moment.
Blessed(AB) are all who take refuge(AC) in him.

19 Así dijo el Señor:
«Ve y compra del alfarero una vasija de barro. Lleva contigo a algunos de los ancianos del pueblo y de los ancianos de los sacerdotes. 2 Luego saldrás al valle de Ben Jinón,(A) que está a la entrada de la puerta oriental, y allí proclamarás 3 esto que voy a decirte: “Reyes de Judá, y habitantes de Jerusalén, ¡oigan la palabra del Señor! Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Yo voy a traer sobre este lugar tal calamidad, que a todo el que lo sepa le zumbarán los oídos. 4 Ustedes me han abandonado. Han profanado este lugar al ofrecer en él incienso a dioses ajenos, dioses que ni ustedes ni sus padres conocieron, ni tampoco los reyes de Judá, y lo han llenado con la sangre de gente inocente. 5 Construyeron altares a Baal, y allí le ofrecieron a sus hijos en holocausto;(B) lo cual nunca les mandé, ni lo mencioné ni me vino a la mente. 6 Por lo tanto, vienen días cuando este lugar no volverá a llamarse Tofet, ni valle de Ben Jinón, sino Valle de la Matanza.”

7 »Yo frustraré en este lugar los planes de Judá y de Jerusalén, y delante de sus enemigos los haré caer a filo de espada; los pondré en las manos de los que buscan matarlos, y dejaré que sus cuerpos les sirvan de alimento a las aves de rapiña y a los animales salvajes. 8 Haré de esta ciudad un motivo de espanto y de burla. Todos los que pasen por ella quedarán asombrados y se burlarán de su total destrucción. 9 Será tal el asedio y las angustias que les harán pasar sus enemigos, los que buscan matarlos, que todos ustedes se comerán la carne misma de sus hijos e hijas, y aun la carne de sus amigos.
10 »Entonces, en presencia de tus acompañantes, harás pedazos la vasija 11 y les dirás que yo, el Señor de los ejércitos, he decidido hacer pedazos a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien hace pedazos una vasija de barro. ¡Nunca más volverán a ser lo que fueron! Y los enterrarán en Tofet, porque no habrá otro lugar donde los entierren. 12 Eso es lo que voy a hacer con este lugar. Haré con esta ciudad y con sus habitantes lo mismo que hice con Tofet.
—Palabra del Señor.
13 »Puesto que sobre los tejados de todas sus casas ofrecieron incienso a todas las huestes celestiales, y derramaron libaciones en honor a dioses ajenos, todas las casas de Jerusalén y de los reyes de Judá quedarán impuras, como impuro quedó Tofet.»
14 Luego Jeremías volvió de Tofet, adonde el Señor lo había enviado a profetizar, y en el atrio de la casa del Señor se puso de pie y le dijo a todo el pueblo:
15 «Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Esta ciudad, y todas las villas que la rodean, se han encaprichado y no quieren oír mis palabras. Por eso, voy a traer sobre ella todo el mal que le había anunciado.”»

19 This is what the Lord says: “Go and buy a clay jar from a potter.(A) Take along some of the elders(B) of the people and of the priests 2 and go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom,(C) near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. There proclaim the words I tell you, 3 and say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, you kings(D) of Judah and people of Jerusalem. This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster(E) on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.(F) 4 For they have forsaken(G) me and made this a place of foreign gods(H); they have burned incense(I) in it to gods that neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.(J) 5 They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children(K) in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.(L) 6 So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth(M) or the Valley of Ben Hinnom,(N) but the Valley of Slaughter.(O)
7 “‘In this place I will ruin[a] the plans(P) of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies,(Q) at the hands of those who want to kill them, and I will give their carcasses(R) as food(S) to the birds and the wild animals. 8 I will devastate this city and make it an object of horror and scorn;(T) all who pass by will be appalled(U) and will scoff because of all its wounds.(V) 9 I will make them eat(W) the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh because their enemies(X) will press the siege so hard against them to destroy them.’
10 “Then break the jar(Y) while those who go with you are watching, 11 and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I will smash(Z) this nation and this city just as this potter’s jar is smashed and cannot be repaired. They will bury(AA) the dead in Topheth until there is no more room. 12 This is what I will do to this place and to those who live here, declares the Lord. I will make this city like Topheth. 13 The houses(AB) in Jerusalem and those of the kings of Judah will be defiled(AC) like this place, Topheth—all the houses where they burned incense on the roofs(AD) to all the starry hosts(AE) and poured out drink offerings(AF) to other gods.’”
14 Jeremiah then returned from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy, and stood in the court(AG) of the Lord’s temple and said to all the people, 15 “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Listen! I am going to bring on this city and all the villages around it every disaster(AH) I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked(AI) and would not listen(AJ) to my words.’”

6 Si enseñas esto a los hermanos, serás un buen ministro de Jesucristo, nutrido con las palabras de la fe y de la buena doctrina que has seguido. 7 Desecha las fábulas profanas y de viejas. Ejercítate para la piedad; 8 porque el ejercicio corporal es poco provechoso, pero la piedad es provechosa para todo, pues cuenta con promesa para esta vida presente, y para la venidera. 9 Esta palabra es fiel, y digna de ser recibida por todos. 10 Y por esto mismo trabajamos y sufrimos oprobios, porque hemos puesto nuestra esperanza en el Dios vivo, que es el Salvador de todos los hombres, y mayormente de los que creen.
11 Esto manda y enseña. 12 Ninguno tenga en poco tu juventud, sino sé ejemplo de los creyentes en palabra, conducta, amor, espíritu, fe y pureza. 13 Mientras llego, ocúpate en la lectura, la exhortación y la enseñanza. 14 No descuides el don que hay en ti, y que recibiste mediante profecía, cuando se te impusieron las manos del presbiterio. 15 Ocúpate en estas cosas, y permanece en ellas, para que tu aprovechamiento sea evidente a todos. 16 Ten cuidado de ti mismo y de la doctrina; persiste en ello. Si haces esto, te salvarás a ti mismo y a los que te escuchen.

6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith(A) and of the good teaching that you have followed.(B) 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales;(C) rather, train yourself to be godly.(D) 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things,(E) holding promise for both the present life(F) and the life to come.(G) 9 This is a trustworthy saying(H) that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God,(I) who is the Savior of all people,(J) and especially of those who believe.
11 Command and teach these things.(K) 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you(L) because you are young, but set an example(M) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith(N) and in purity. 13 Until I come,(O) devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture,(P) to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy(Q) when the body of elders(R) laid their hands on you.(S)
15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save(T) both yourself and your hearers.

2 Quiero entender tus perfectas enseñanzas.
¿Cuándo vendrás a mi encuentro?
Así me conduciré con rectitud en mi hogar,
3 y no pondré los ojos en la injusticia.
Odio a los que actúan de manera torcida;
no permito que ninguno de ellos se acerque a mí.

Caída de Samaria
9 En el séptimo año del reinado de Oseas hijo de Elá sobre Israel, que era el cuarto año del reinado del rey Ezequías de Judá, el rey Salmanasar de Asiria atacó la ciudad de Samaria y la sitió. 10 Tres años después logró conquistarla. En el año sexto del reinado de Ezequías, que era el noveno año del reinado de Oseas sobre Israel, Samaria fue conquistada. 11 El rey de Asiria hizo prisioneros a los israelitas, y los llevó cautivos a Asiria. Los puso en las ciudades de Jalaj y Jabor, junto al río Gozán, y en las ciudades de los medos. 12 Y es que los israelitas no obedecieron a la voz del Señor, su Dios, sino que faltaron a su pacto y a todo lo que había mandado Moisés, el siervo del Señor. No las obedecieron ni las pusieron por obra.
Senaquerib invade a Judá(A)
13 En el año catorce del reinado de Ezequías, el rey Senaquerib de Asiria atacó todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y las conquistó. 14 Y el rey Ezequías de Judá envió a decirle al rey de Asiria, que estaba en Laquis:
«He pecado. Aléjate de mí, y yo haré todo lo que me impongas.»
El rey de Asiria impuso al rey Ezequías de Judá un tributo de nueve mil novecientos kilos de plata y novecientos noventa kilos de oro, 15 y Ezequías entregó toda la plata que había en el templo del Señor y en los tesoros del palacio real. 16 Además, removió el oro de las puertas y quiciales del templo del Señor, que el mismo rey Ezequías había recubierto de oro, y se lo entregó al rey de Asiria. 17 Después el rey de Asiria envió desde Laquis un gran ejército contra el rey Ezequías. Venía comandado por el Tartán, el Rabsaris y el Rabsaces, y éstos vinieron y atacaron a Jerusalén. Cuando llegaron, acamparon junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, en dirección al Campo del Lavador. 18 Allí, llamaron al rey, pero salieron a hablar con ellos el mayordomo Eliaquín hijo de Hilcías, el escriba Sebna, y el canciller Yoaj hijo de Asaf.

9 In King Hezekiah’s fourth year,(A) which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched against Samaria and laid siege to it. 10 At the end of three years the Assyrians took it. So Samaria was captured in Hezekiah’s sixth year, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel. 11 The king(B) of Assyria deported Israel to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in towns of the Medes.(C) 12 This happened because they had not obeyed the Lord their God, but had violated his covenant(D)—all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.(E) They neither listened to the commands(F) nor carried them out.
13 In the fourteenth year(G) of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah(H) and captured them. 14 So Hezekiah king of Judah sent this message to the king of Assyria at Lachish:(I) “I have done wrong.(J) Withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand of me.” The king of Assyria exacted from Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents[a] of silver and thirty talents[b] of gold. 15 So Hezekiah gave(K) him all the silver that was found in the temple of the Lord and in the treasuries of the royal palace.
16 At this time Hezekiah king of Judah stripped off the gold with which he had covered the doors(L) and doorposts of the temple of the Lord, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
Sennacherib Threatens Jerusalem(M)(N)
17 The king of Assyria sent his supreme commander,(O) his chief officer and his field commander with a large army, from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They came up to Jerusalem and stopped at the aqueduct of the Upper Pool,(P) on the road to the Washerman’s Field. 18 They called for the king; and Eliakim(Q) son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna(R) the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went out to them.
