¹ Why do the nations conspire^[a]
    and the peoples plot^(A) in vain?
² The kings^(B) of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed,^(C) saying,

¹ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?^(A)
    Why are you so far^(B) from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?^(C)
2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,^(D)
    by night,^(E) but I find no rest.^[b]

¹ The Lord says^(A) to my lord:^[a]

42 “Here is my servant,^(A) whom I uphold,
    my chosen one^(B) in whom I delight;^(C)
I will put my Spirit^(D) on him,
    and he will bring justice^(E) to the nations.^(F)
