⁴ He who ^(E)sits in the heavens ^(F)laughs;
    the Lord holds them in derision.
⁵ Then he will speak to them in his ^(G)wrath,
    and terrify them in his fury, saying,
⁶ “As for me, I have ^(H)set my King
    on ^(I)Zion, my ^(J)holy hill.”

⁷ I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, ^(K)“You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
⁸ Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and ^(L)the ends of the earth your possession.
⁹ You shall ^(M)break^[b] them with ^(N)a rod of iron
    and dash them in pieces like ^(O)a potter's vessel.”

¹⁰ Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
    be warned, O rulers of the earth.
^11 (P)Serve the Lord with ^(Q)fear,
    and ^(R)rejoice with ^(S)trembling.
^12 (T)Kiss ^(U)the Son,
    lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
    for his ^(V)wrath is quickly kindled.
^(W)Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

⁴ I do not ^(I)sit with men of ^(J)falsehood,
    nor do I consort with hypocrites.
⁵ I ^(K)hate the assembly of evildoers,
    and I will not sit with the wicked.

⁶ I ^(L)wash my hands in innocence
    and go around your altar, O Lord,
⁷ proclaiming thanksgiving aloud,
    and telling all your ^(M)wondrous deeds.

⁸ O Lord, I ^(N)love the habitation of your house
    and the place where your glory dwells.
^9 (O)Do not sweep my soul away with sinners,
    nor my life with bloodthirsty men,
¹⁰ in whose hands are evil devices,
    and whose right hands are full of ^(P)bribes.

¹¹ But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
    redeem me, and be gracious to me.
¹² My foot stands on ^(Q)level ground;
    in ^(R)the great assembly I will bless the Lord.

^13 (A)Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
    break forth, O mountains, into singing!
For the Lord ^(B)has comforted his people
    and will have compassion on his afflicted.

¹⁴ But Zion said, ^(C)“The Lord has forsaken me;
    my Lord has forgotten me.”

^15 (D)“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
    that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
    yet I will not forget you.
¹⁶ Behold, ^(E)I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
    your walls are continually before me.
¹⁷ Your builders make haste;^{[a]
    (F)}your destroyers and those who laid you waste go out from you.
^18 (G)Lift up your eyes around and see;
    they all gather, they come to you.
^(H)As I live, declares the Lord,
    ^(I)you shall put them all on as an ornament;
    you shall bind them on as a bride does.

¹⁹ “Surely your waste and your desolate places
    and your devastated land—
^(J)surely now you will be too narrow for your inhabitants,
    and those who swallowed you up will be far away.
^20 (K)The children of your bereavement
    will yet say in your ears:
^(L)‘The place is too narrow for me;
    make room for me to dwell in.’
²¹ Then you will say in your heart:
    ‘Who has borne me these?
^(M)I was bereaved and barren,
    exiled and put away,
    but who has brought up these?
Behold, I was left alone;
    from where have these come?’”

²² Thus says the Lord God:
“Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,
    ^(N)and raise my signal to the peoples;
^(O)and they shall bring your sons in their arms,^[b]
    and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
^23 (P)Kings shall be your foster fathers,
    and their queens your nursing mothers.
^(Q)With their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you,
    and ^(R)lick the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
    ^(S)those who wait for me ^(T)shall not be put to shame.”
