Psalm 16

Confidence in the Lord

¹Protect me, God, for I take refuge in you.^(B)
²I^[a] said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides you.”^[b]^(C)
³As for the holy people who are in the land,^(D)
they are the noble ones.
All my delight is in them.
⁴The sorrows of those who take another god
for themselves will multiply;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
and I will not speak their names with my lips.^(E)

⁵Lord, you are my portion^[c]
and my cup of blessing;
you hold my future.^(F)
⁶The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.^(G)

⁷I will bless the Lord who counsels me^(H)—
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.^[d]^(I)
⁸I always let the Lord guide me.^[e]
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.^(J)

⁹Therefore my heart is glad
and my whole being rejoices;
my body also rests securely.^(K)
¹⁰For you will not abandon me to Sheol;^(L)
you will not allow your faithful one to see decay.^(M)
¹¹You reveal the path of life to me;
in your presence is abundant joy;^(N)
at your right hand are eternal pleasures.^(O)

Romans 15:5-13

⁵Now may the God who gives^[a] endurance and encouragement^(A) grant you to live in harmony with one another,^(B) according to Christ Jesus, ⁶so that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ^(C) with one mind and one voice.

Glorifying God Together

⁷Therefore welcome one another,^(D) just as^[b] Christ also welcomed you, to the glory of God. ⁸For I say that Christ became a servant of the circumcised^[c] on behalf of God’s truth,^(E) to confirm the promises to the fathers,^(F) ⁹and so that Gentiles^(G) may glorify God for his mercy.^(H) As it is written,

Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles,
and I will sing praise to your name.^[d]^(I)

¹⁰Again it says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people!^[e]^(J) ¹¹And again,

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles;
let all the peoples praise him!^[f]^(K)

¹²And again, Isaiah says,

The root of Jesse^(L) will appear,
the one who rises to rule the Gentiles;
the Gentiles will hope in him.^[g]^(M)

¹³Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe^(N) so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.^(O)
