Psalm 16

Song of Trust and Security in God

A Miktam of David.

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.(A)
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”[a]

As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble ones
    in whom is all my delight.(B)

Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows;[b]
    their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
    or take their names upon my lips.(C)

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
    you hold my lot.(D)
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    I have a goodly heritage.(E)

I bless the Lord, who gives me counsel;
    in the night also my heart instructs me.(F)
I keep the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.(G)

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
    my body also rests secure.(H)
10 For you do not give me up to Sheol
    or let your faithful one see the Pit.(I)

11 You show me the path of life.
    In your presence there is fullness of joy;
    in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.(J)

28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the gentiles who seek all these things, and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God[a] and his[b] righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(A)
