Psalm 145

Great Is the Lord

^[a] A Song of Praise. Of David.

145 ^(A)I will extol you, my God and ^(B)King,
    and bless your name forever and ever.
²Every day I will bless you
    ^(C)and praise your name forever and ever.
³^(D)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
    and his ^(E)greatness is unsearchable.

⁴^(F)One generation shall commend your works to another,
    and shall declare your mighty acts.
⁵On ^(G)the glorious splendor of your majesty,
    and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
⁶They shall speak of ^(H)the might of your awesome deeds,
    and I will declare your greatness.
⁷They shall pour forth the fame of your ^(I)abundant goodness
    and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

⁸The Lord is ^(J)gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
⁹The Lord is ^(K)good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.

¹⁰^(L)All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
    and all your ^(M)saints shall bless you!
¹¹They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
    and tell of your power,
¹²to ^(N)make known to the children of man your^[b] ^(O)mighty deeds,
    and ^(P)the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
¹³^(Q)Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

[The Lord is faithful in all his words
    and kind in all his works.]^[c]
¹⁴The Lord ^(R)upholds all who are falling
    and ^(S)raises up all who are bowed down.
¹⁵The eyes of all ^(T)look to you,
    and you give them their food in due season.
¹⁶You ^(U)open your hand;
    you ^(V)satisfy the desire of every living thing.
¹⁷The Lord is ^(W)righteous in all his ways
    and ^(X)kind in all his works.
¹⁸The Lord is ^(Y)near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him ^(Z)in truth.
¹⁹He ^(AA)fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
    he also ^(AB)hears their cry and saves them.
²⁰The Lord ^(AC)preserves all who love him,
    but all the wicked he will destroy.

²¹My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and ^(AD)let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

^(D)Your hair is like a flock of goats
    leaping down ^(E)the slopes of Gilead.
²Your ^(F)teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes
    that have come up from the washing,
all of which bear twins,
    and not one among them has lost its young.
³Your lips are like ^(G)a scarlet thread,
    and your mouth is ^(H)lovely.
Your ^(I)cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate
    ^(J)behind your veil.
⁴Your ^(K)neck is like the tower of David,
    built in ^(L)rows of stone;^[a]
on it ^(M)hang a thousand shields,
    all of ^(N)them shields of warriors.

    twins of a gazelle,

from the dens of lions,

Thanksgiving

⁴I ^(B)give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, ⁵that in every way ^(C)you were enriched in him in all ^(D)speech and all knowledge— ⁶even as ^(E)the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— ⁷so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you ^(F)wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁸^(G)who will sustain you to the end, ^(H)guiltless ^(I)in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹^(J)God is faithful, by whom you were called into the ^(K)fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Divisions in the Church

¹⁰I appeal to you, brothers,^[a] by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no ^(L)divisions among you, but that you be united ^(M)in the same mind and the same judgment. ¹¹For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is ^(N)quarreling among you, my brothers. ¹²What I mean is that ^(O)each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow ^(P)Apollos,” or “I follow ^(Q)Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” ¹³^(R)Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you ^(S)baptized in the name of Paul? ¹⁴I thank God that I baptized none of you except ^(T)Crispus and ^(U)Gaius, ¹⁵so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. ¹⁶(I did baptize also ^(V)the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) ¹⁷For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and ^(W)not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
