Psalm 142
Christian Standard Bible
Psalm 142
A Cry of Distress
A Maskil of David. When he was in the cave.(A) A prayer.
1 I cry aloud to the Lord;(B)
I plead aloud to the Lord for mercy.(C)
2 I pour out my complaint before him;
I reveal my trouble to him.(D)
3 Although my spirit is weak within me,
you know my way.(E)
Along this path I travel
they have hidden a trap for me.(F)
4 Look to the right and see:[a]
no one stands up for me;
there is no refuge for me;
no one cares about me.(G)
5 I cry to you, Lord;
I say, “You are my shelter,
my portion in the land of the living.”(H)
6 Listen to my cry,
for I am very weak.(I)
Rescue me from those who pursue me,
for they are too strong for me.(J)
7 Free me from prison
so that I can praise your name.
The righteous will gather around me
because you deal generously with me.(K)

Preaching in Galilee
35 Very(A) early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place;(B) and there he was praying.(C) 36 Simon(D) and his companions searched for him, 37 and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
38 And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach(E) there too. This is why I have come.”
A Man Cleansed
39 He went into all of Galilee,(F) preaching in their synagogues(G) and driving out demons. 40 Then(H) a man with leprosy[a](I) came to him and, on his knees,[b](J) begged him, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”(K) 41 Moved with compassion,[c](L) Jesus reached out his hand and touched(M) him. “I am willing,” he told him. “Be made clean.” 42 Immediately the leprosy(N) left him, and he was made clean. 43 Then he sternly warned(O) him and sent him away(P) at once, 44 telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone;(Q) but go and show(R) yourself to the priest,(S) and offer(T) what Moses commanded for your cleansing,(U) as a testimony(V) to them.”[d] 45 Yet he went out and began to proclaim(W) it widely and to spread the news,(X) with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But he was out in deserted places, and they came to him from everywhere.
