Psalm 140

Prayer for Protection against the Wicked.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
140 (A)Rescue me, Lord, from evil people;
Protect me from (B)violent men
2 Who (C)devise evil things in their hearts;
They (D)continually stir up wars.
3 They (E)sharpen their tongues like a snake;
(F)The venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah
4 (G)Keep me, Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
(H)Protect me from violent men
Who [a]intend to [b](I)trip up my feet.
5 The proud have (J)hidden a trap for me, and snares;
They have spread a (K)net at the [c]wayside;
They have set (L)snares for me. Selah
6 I (M)said to the Lord, “You are my God;
(N)Listen, Lord, to the (O)sound of my pleadings.
7 [d]God the Lord, (P)the strength of my salvation,
You have (Q)covered my head on the day of [e]battle.
8 Do not grant, Lord, the (R)desires of the wicked;
Do not bring about (S)his evil planning, so that they are not exalted. Selah
9 “As for the head of those who surround me,
May the (T)harm of their lips cover them.
10 May (U)burning coals fall upon them;
May they be (V)cast into the fire,
Into bottomless pits from which they (W)cannot rise.
11 May a [f]slanderer not endure on the earth;
(X)May evil hunt a violent person [g]violently.”
12 I know that the Lord will (Y)maintain the cause of the afflicted,
And (Z)justice for the poor.
13 Certainly the (AA)righteous will give thanks to Your name;
The (AB)upright will dwell in Your presence.

1 Rescue me,(A) Lord, from evildoers;
protect me from the violent,(B)
2 who devise evil plans(C) in their hearts
and stir up war(D) every day.
3 They make their tongues as sharp as(E) a serpent’s;
the poison of vipers(F) is on their lips.[b]
4 Keep me safe,(G) Lord, from the hands of the wicked;(H)
protect me from the violent,
who devise ways to trip my feet.
5 The arrogant have hidden a snare(I) for me;
they have spread out the cords of their net(J)
and have set traps(K) for me along my path.
6 I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”(L)
Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.(M)
7 Sovereign Lord,(N) my strong deliverer,
you shield my head in the day of battle.
8 Do not grant the wicked(O) their desires, Lord;
do not let their plans succeed.

140 Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men;
Protect me from violent men.

They devise evil things in their hearts;
They continually [gather together and] stir up wars.
3
They sharpen their tongues like a serpent’s;
Poison of a viper is under their lips.(A) Selah.
4
Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
Protect me from violent men
Who intend to trip up my steps.
5
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords;
They have spread a net by the wayside;
They have set traps for me. Selah.
6
I said to the Lord, “You are my God;
Listen to the voice of my supplications, O Lord.
7
“O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation,
You have covered my head in the day of battle.
8
“Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
Do not further their evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah.
9
“Those who surround me raise their heads;
May the mischief of their own lips come upon them.
10
“Let burning coals fall upon them;
Let them be thrown into the fire,
Into deep [water] pits from which they cannot rise.
11
“Do not let a slanderer be established in the earth;
Let evil quickly hunt the violent man [to overthrow him and stop his evil acts].”
12
I know [with confidence] that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
And [will secure] justice for the poor.
13
Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name;
The upright will dwell in Your presence.

140 Livra-me, ó Senhor, do homem mau; guarda-me do homem violento; 2 os quais pensam o mal no coração; continuamente se ajuntam para a guerra. 3 Aguçaram a língua como a serpente; o veneno das víboras está debaixo dos seus lábios. (Selá)
4 Guarda-me, ó Senhor, das mãos do ímpio e guarda-me do homem violento, os quais se propuseram desviar os meus passos. 5 Os soberbos armaram-me laços e cordas; estenderam a rede à beira do caminho; armaram-me laços corrediços. (Selá)
6 Eu disse ao Senhor: tu és o meu Deus; ouve a voz das minhas súplicas, ó Senhor. 7 Senhor Deus, fortaleza da minha salvação, tu cobriste a minha cabeça no dia da batalha. 8 Não cumpras, ó Senhor, ao ímpio os seus desejos; não deixes ir por diante o seu mau propósito, para que não se exalte. (Selá)
9 Quanto aos que, cercando-me, levantam a cabeça, cubra-os a maldade dos seus lábios. 10 Caiam sobre eles brasas vivas, sejam lançados no fogo em covas profundas, para que se não tornem a levantar. 11 Não terá firmeza na terra o homem de má língua; o mal perseguirá o homem violento, até que seja desterrado.
12 Sei que o Senhor sustentará a causa do oprimido e o direito do necessitado. 13 Assim, os justos louvarão o teu nome; os retos habitarão na tua presença.

1 Livra-me, Senhor, dos maus;
protege-me dos violentos,
2 que no coração tramam planos perversos
e estão sempre provocando guerra.
3 Afiam a língua como a da serpente;
veneno de víbora está em seus lábios.Pausa
4 Protege-me, Senhor, das mãos dos ímpios;
protege-me dos violentos,
que pretendem fazer-me tropeçar.
5 Homens arrogantes prepararam
armadilhas contra mim,
perversos estenderam as suas redes;
no meu caminho armaram ciladas contra mim.Pausa
6 Eu declaro ao Senhor: Tu és o meu Deus.
Ouve, Senhor, a minha súplica!
7 Ó Soberano Senhor, meu salvador poderoso,
tu me proteges a cabeça no dia da batalha;
8 não atendas os desejos dos ímpios, Senhor!
Não permitas que os planos deles
tenham sucesso,
para que não se orgulhem.Pausa
9 Recaia sobre a cabeça dos que me cercam
a maldade que os seus lábios proferiram.
10 Caiam brasas sobre eles,
e sejam lançados ao fogo,
em covas das quais jamais possam sair.
11 Que os difamadores
não se estabeleçam na terra,
e a desgraça persiga os violentos até a morte.
12 Sei que o Senhor defenderá
a causa do necessitado
e fará justiça aos pobres.
13 Com certeza os justos darão graças
ao teu nome,
e os homens íntegros viverão na tua presença.
