14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.
5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his refuge.
7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the Lord bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Psalm 14
1 Een lied van David. Voor de leider van het koor.
De dwaze mensen denken:
"Er is geen God."
Ze plegen afschuwelijke en walgelijke misdaden.
Er is niemand die iets goeds doet.
2 Vanuit de hemel kijkt de Heer naar de mensen.
Hij zoekt of er iemand is die iets goeds doet,
of er iemand is die verstandig is,
of er iemand is die echt naar Hem verlangt.
3 Maar niemand leeft zoals Hij het wil.
Iedereen is even slecht.
Niemand doet iets goeds, helemaal niemand.
4 Weten de slechte mensen dan helemaal niets van God?
Ze eten mijn volk op alsof het brood is!
Niemand van hen aanbidt de Heer.
5 Maar plotseling schrikken ze hevig:
ze zien hoe God opkomt voor de mensen die leven zoals Hij het wil.
6 Door jullie hebben arme en verdrukte mensen geen enkele hoop meer,
maar ze vluchten naar de Heer en zijn daar veilig.
7 Kwam er uit Jeruzalem maar redding voor Israël!
Als de Heer de gevangenen van zijn volk bevrijdt,
zal het volk van Jakob juichen. Het volk Israël zal weer blij zijn.

1 The fool[a] says in his heart,
“There is no God.”(B)
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven(C)
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,(D)
any who seek God.(E)
3 All have turned away,(F) all have become corrupt;(G)
there is no one who does good,(H)
not even one.(I)
4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?(J)

This is a song that David wrote for the music leader.
God rules the world
14 Only fools say to themselves, ‘There is no God.’
People like that do bad and evil things.
None of them do things that are good and right.
2 The Lord is looking down from heaven.
He looks at the people of the world,
to see if there are any wise people among them.
He looks to see if anyone wants to know God.
3 But everyone has turned away from God.
They have all become evil.
Not even one person does things that are right!
4 Will those evil people never learn?
They destroy my people,
as if they are eating a meal.
They never pray to the Lord.
5 Look at them! Now they are very afraid!
They see that God is with the people who obey him.
6 You wicked people tried to bring shame to poor people.
But the Lord keeps poor people safe.
7 The Lord is the one who can save Israel's people.
Please Lord, come now from your home in Zion!
When the Lord makes his people strong again,
Jacob's descendants will be happy!
Yes, Israel's people will shout with joy![a]

14 The (B)fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2 (C)The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 (D)They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And (E)do not call on the Lord?
5 There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.
