Psalm 13
A Plea for Deliverance
For the choir director. A psalm of David.
1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?(A)
2 How long will I store up anxious concerns[a] within me,
agony in my mind every day?
How long will my enemy dominate me?(B)
3 Consider me and answer, Lord my God.
Restore brightness to my eyes;(C)
otherwise, I will sleep in death.
4 My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,”
and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.(D)
5 But I have trusted in your faithful love;(E)
my heart will rejoice in your deliverance.(F)
6 I will sing to the Lord
because he has treated me generously.(G)

The Glorious and Purified Remnant
7 Then the remnant of Jacob(A)
will be among many peoples
like dew from the Lord,(B)
like showers on the grass,(C)
which do not wait for anyone
or linger for mankind.
8 Then the remnant of Jacob
will be among the nations, among many peoples,
like a lion among animals of the forest,(D)
like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which tramples(E) and tears(F) as it passes through,
and there is no one to rescue them.(G)
9 Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries,(H)
and all your enemies will be destroyed.
10 In that day—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
I will remove your horses from you(I)
and wreck your chariots.
11 I will remove the cities of your land(J)
and tear down all your fortresses.(K)
12 I will remove sorceries from your hands,(L)
and you will not have any more fortune-tellers.
13 I will remove your carved images(M)
and sacred pillars from you
so that you will no longer worship
the work of your hands.
14 I will pull up the Asherah poles(N) from among you(O)
and demolish your cities.[a]
15 I will take vengeance in anger and wrath(P)
against the nations that have not obeyed me.
