Confidence in Yahweh’s Protection

A song of ascents.[a]

125 Those who trust in Yahweh
are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved,
but abides forever.
As mountains are round about Jerusalem,
so Yahweh is round about his people,
from now until forever.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
on the land[b] of the righteous,
lest the righteous stretch out
their hands to do wickedness.[c]
Do good, O Yahweh, to the good,
and to those upright in their hearts.
But regarding those who turn aside to their crooked ways,
Yahweh will lead them away with the evildoers.
Peace be upon Israel.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 125:1 The Hebrew Bible counts the superscription as the first verse of the psalm
  2. Psalm 125:3 Literally “lot,” that is, land allotted
  3. Psalm 125:3 Hebrew “in wickedness”

125 1-5 Those who trust in God
    are like Zion Mountain:
Nothing can move it, a rock-solid mountain
    you can always depend on.
Mountains encircle Jerusalem,
    and God encircles his people—
    always has and always will.
The fist of the wicked
    will never violate
What is due the righteous,
    provoking wrongful violence.
Be good to your good people, God,
to those whose hearts are right!
God will round up the backsliders,
    corral them with the incorrigibles.
Peace over Israel!
