Praise for Rescue from Enemies.

A Song of Ascents, of David.

124 (A)Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,”
(B)Let Israel say,
“Had it not been the Lord who was on our side
When people rose up against us,
Then they would have (C)swallowed us alive,
When their (D)anger was kindled against us;
Then the (E)waters would have flooded over us,
The stream would have [a]swept over our souls;
Then the (F)raging waters would have [b]swept over our souls.”

Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us [c]to be (G)torn by their teeth.
Our souls have (H)escaped (I)like a bird from the trapper’s (J)snare;
The snare is broken and we have escaped.
Our (K)help is in the name of the Lord,
Who (L)made heaven and earth.

124 If the Lord had not been on our side (let all Israel admit it), if the Lord had not been on our side, 2-3 we would have been swallowed alive by our enemies, destroyed by their anger. 4-5 We would have drowned beneath the flood of these men’s fury and pride.

Blessed be Jehovah who has not let them devour us. We have escaped with our lives as a bird from a hunter’s snare. The snare is broken and we are free!

Our help is from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
