Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God

A Song of ^(A)Ascents.

123 To you I ^(B)lift up my eyes,
    O you who are ^(C)enthroned in the heavens!
²Behold, as the eyes of servants
    look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
    to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
    till he has mercy upon us.

³^(D)Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
    for we have had more than enough of ^(E)contempt.
⁴Our soul has had more than enough
    of ^(F)the scorn of ^(G)those who are at ease,
    of the contempt of ^(H)the proud.

The Death of Joshua

⁶When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. ⁷^(A)And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel. ⁸And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 years. ⁹And they buried him within the boundaries of ^(B)his inheritance in Timnath-heres, ^(C)in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. ¹⁰And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

Israel's Unfaithfulness

¹¹^(D)And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. ¹²^(E)And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. ^(F)They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and ^(G)bowed down to them. ^(H)And they provoked the Lord to anger. ¹³They abandoned the Lord ^(I)and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. ¹⁴^(J)So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he ^(K)gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. ^(L)And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, ^(M)so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. ¹⁵Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, ^(N)and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress.

The Seven Bowls of God's Wrath

16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling ^(A)the seven angels, “Go and ^(B)pour out on the earth ^(C)the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

²So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful ^(D)sores came upon the people who bore ^(E)the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

³The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and ^(F)it became like the blood of a corpse, and ^(G)every living thing died that was in the sea.

⁴The third angel poured out his bowl into ^(H)the rivers and the springs of water, and ^(I)they became blood. ⁵And I heard the angel in charge of the waters^[a] say,

^(J)“Just are you, ^(K)O Holy One, ^(L)who is and who was,
for you brought these judgments.
⁶For ^(M)they have shed the blood of ^(N)saints and prophets,
and ^(O)you have given them blood to drink.
It is what they deserve!”
