King James Version

121 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven(A) and earth.(B)

3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches(C) over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over(D) you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun(E) will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm(F)—
    he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.(G)

1 Een pelgrimslied.[a]

Ik kijk omhoog naar de bergen.
Daar zal mijn hulp vandaan komen.[b]
2 Mijn hulp komt van de Heer,
die de hemel en de aarde heeft gemaakt.

3 Hij zal ervoor zorgen dat je niets overkomt.
Je Beschermer slaapt nooit.
4 De Beschermer van Israël rust niet en slaapt niet.
Hij let altijd op.
5 Net als je schaduw is de Heer altijd heel dicht bij je.
Hij zal je altijd beschermen.
6 Overdag zal de zon je niet steken, 's nachts zal de maan je geen kwaad doen.
7 Tegen elk kwaad zal de Heer je beschermen.
Hij bewaart je leven.
8 De Heer zal je beschermen
waar je ook bent, waar je ook gaat,
nu en voor altijd.

  1. Psalmen 121:1 De pelgrimsliederen werden onderweg gezongen door de mensen die op reis waren naar Jeruzalem voor één van de feesten van de Heer.
  2. Psalmen 121:1 Jeruzalem ligt op een berg. De schrijver verwacht 'hulp uit de bergen', namelijk hulp van de Heer die in Jeruzalem woont.
