My Help Comes from the Lord

121 I ^(B)lift up my eyes to ^(C)the hills.
From where does my help come?
²^(D)My help comes from the Lord,
who ^(E)made heaven and earth.

³He will not ^(F)let your foot be moved;
he who ^(G)keeps you will not slumber.
⁴Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

⁵The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your ^(H)shade on your ^(I)right hand.
⁶^(J)The sun shall not ^(K)strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

⁷The Lord will ^(L)keep you from all evil;
    he will ^(M)keep your life.
⁸The Lord will keep
    your ^(N)going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.

Let Us Go to the House of the Lord

A Song of ^(A)Ascents. Of David.

122 I was glad when they said to me,
^(B)“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
²Our feet have been standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem!

³Jerusalem—^(C)built as a city
    that is ^(D)bound firmly together,
⁴to which the tribes ^(E)go up,
    the tribes of the Lord,
as was ^(F)decreed for^[a] Israel,
    to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
⁵There ^(G)thrones for judgment were set,
    the thrones of the house of David.

⁶^(H)Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
    “May they be secure who love you!
⁷Peace be within your ^(I)walls
    and security within your ^(J)towers!”
⁸For my brothers and companions' sake
    I will say, ^(K)“Peace be within you!”
⁹For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will ^(L)seek your good.

Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God

123 To you I ^(B)lift up my eyes,
    O you who are ^(C)enthroned in the heavens!
²Behold, as the eyes of servants
    look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
    to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
    till he has mercy upon us.

³^(D)Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
    for we have had more than enough of ^(E)contempt.
⁴Our soul has had more than enough
    of ^(F)the scorn of ^(G)those who are at ease,
    of the contempt of ^(H)the proud.

Naomi and Ruth Return

¹⁹So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, ^(E)the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?” ²⁰She said to them, “Do not call me Naomi;^[a] call me ^(F)Mara,^[b] for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹^(G)I went away full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?”

²²So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem ^(H)at the beginning of barley harvest.

¹²For our boast is this, ^(A)the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity^[a] and ^(B)godly sincerity, ^(C)not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you. ¹³For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand— ¹⁴just as you did ^(D)partially understand us—that ^(E)on the day of our Lord Jesus ^(F)you will boast of us as ^(G)we will boast of you.

¹⁵Because I was sure of this, ^(H)I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have ^(I)a second ^(J)experience of grace. ¹⁶I wanted to visit you ^(K)on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea. ¹⁷Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans ^(L)according to the flesh, ready to say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time? ¹⁸As surely as ^(M)God is faithful, ^(N)our word to you has not been Yes and No. ¹⁹For ^(O)the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, ^(P)Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but ^(Q)in him it is always Yes. ²⁰For ^(R)all the promises of God find their Yes in him. Salt and Light

¹³“You are the salt of the earth, ^(A)but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

¹⁴^(B)“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵^(C)Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. ¹⁶In the same way, let your light shine before others, so ^(D)that^[a] they may see your good works and ^(E)give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

¹⁷^(F)“Do not think that I have come to abolish ^(G)the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but ^(H)to fulfill them. ¹⁸For truly, I say to you, ^(I)until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. ¹⁹^(J)Therefore whoever relaxes ^(K)one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least ^(L)in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great ^(M)in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds ^(N)that of the scribes and Pharisees, you ^(O)will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
